The wonderful Balagur 2nd in Kur at Neumunster

The "pink Russian horse" who made everyone smile at the Olympics, Balagur, is back! He scored 78% in the Kur to come second to Isabel Werth (who won on 84.5%, despite some "issues" in the piaffe, apparently). Laura B was 4th on 76.5%.

Balagur is a 19yr old Orlov trotter stallion, who has been a police horse and a circus horse in his time. Now he's a world class dressage horse. I'm hoping a video of his Kur will become available because he is amazing and well worth watching. Best piaffe in competitive dressage, and he can canter for a 9 too!

More likely to be a Russian, wouldn't it? Someone like Filatow or Petushkova? From what I remember of his story I don't think he was in Germany prior to hitting the limelight, although I don't know if any of the Theodorescue/Neckermann/Boldt/Theiderman generation taught in Russia.
 
No, Balagur and Alexandra were indeed trained by Herr Theodorescu in Germany. There was a story about how difficult it was for Alexandra to get to him in Germany at one point when she had visa problems. She discovered him in Siberia and showed Georg a video of him just trotting down the street and he told her to buy him and bring him to Germany!

Just watched the video, brilliant.
Does anyone else think that one of the reasons people have taken him to their hearts, apart from him being extremely talented that is, is that he doesnt look like/isn't what is considered, by some, a typical dressage horse. By that I mean a big powerful WB.

Disclaimer, I know all types of horses can do dressage

no, seriously, i think the fact that he's already had at least 2 careers is a huge draw, and that he was plucked from total obscurity by an unknown rider. he also has such a wise, knowing face, bless him... quite literally "been there, done that."

He scored a magnificent 10 for his piaffe in Neumunster. The horse is amazing!

I remembered the bit about visa problems but thought it was to compete originally, not to get to the horse already there.
