So your all wondering why i would post this but today has been a very special & memorable morning. Please read to find out why.
My big chestnut boy also know as the Red Dragon severely damaged his Impar Ligament in the field last year. On MRI the foot was a mashed mess of severe swelling, he also had adhesions from the Impar to the DDFT apparently this was very bad news. The Navic bursa wasnt recognisable.
Anyway to cut a rediculously long story short, he came home we where supposed to box rest for 4 weeks & then walk out in hand for 10 mins uping by 5 every week. On the 2nd day of walking he went badly lame hopping much worse than previous & stayed hopping lame, i phoned & spoke to Dr Milner & he said he thought this might happen & to box rest now for a further 3 months.
So i did but i also said i didnt thing the the remedial shoes where helping him one bit, so we all agreed to take him barefoot a step i was worried about with the injury being in the foot. But we did it as we where running out of options fast. He was just going hopping lame in the stable from dragging the banks down in his stable, it was awful.
So after months of box rest, months of walking in hand & then turn out in a controlled pen & then straight line hacking. My boy started to come sounder.
We are now at the point where he can gallop around his field, sliding stops, buck, fart you name it & he's staying sound as a pound even on the concrete clay cround & he has been sound since April this year.
So today we had a lesson from our trainer for the first time since his injury, he's fat & not as fit. But we kept the work at a pace to suit this with loads of walk breaks. The basics where worked on over & over with both horses, but i swear my chestnut boy was beaming i think he thought he wasnt going to get a go as the spanish one was first.
I can't tell you all how much this horse means to me i bought him as a dressage write off, got him right & then we had this which we all thought was the end.
Im so happy to be back on board & have him sound it just wonderful. He was competing Medium prior to this, so we hope with time we will get him back to that & hopefully continue on our journey together.
Anyway pic's of the fat but completely special one -
Some of the Baby Spanish, who's learning to be more consistent & seek the contact i can be very wishy washy with him at times which isnt good for him, he's only 4yo -
Hope you all dont mind me posting this.
