So your all wondering why i would post this but today has been a very special & memorable morning. Please read to find out why.

My big chestnut boy also know as the Red Dragon severely damaged his Impar Ligament in the field last year. On MRI the foot was a mashed mess of severe swelling, he also had adhesions from the Impar to the DDFT apparently this was very bad news. The Navic bursa wasnt recognisable.

Anyway to cut a rediculously long story short, he came home we where supposed to box rest for 4 weeks & then walk out in hand for 10 mins uping by 5 every week. On the 2nd day of walking he went badly lame hopping much worse than previous & stayed hopping lame, i phoned & spoke to Dr Milner & he said he thought this might happen & to box rest now for a further 3 months.
So i did but i also said i didnt thing the the remedial shoes where helping him one bit, so we all agreed to take him barefoot a step i was worried about with the injury being in the foot. But we did it as we where running out of options fast. He was just going hopping lame in the stable from dragging the banks down in his stable, it was awful.

So after months of box rest, months of walking in hand & then turn out in a controlled pen & then straight line hacking. My boy started to come sounder.

We are now at the point where he can gallop around his field, sliding stops, buck, fart you name it & he's staying sound as a pound even on the concrete clay cround & he has been sound since April this year.

So today we had a lesson from our trainer for the first time since his injury, he's fat & not as fit. But we kept the work at a pace to suit this with loads of walk breaks. The basics where worked on over & over with both horses, but i swear my chestnut boy was beaming i think he thought he wasnt going to get a go as the spanish one was first.

I can't tell you all how much this horse means to me i bought him as a dressage write off, got him right & then we had this which we all thought was the end.
Im so happy to be back on board & have him sound it just wonderful. He was competing Medium prior to this, so we hope with time we will get him back to that & hopefully continue on our journey together.

Anyway pic's of the fat but completely special one -

Hope you all dont mind me posting this.

congratulations on your special boy going sound again....... I know just how much that means, from one of my own going unsound and then coming back, and his unsoundness wasn't anything like as horrific as yours :)

It has been a long haul, the major problems I have now is I'm constantly looking for odd strides. I'm obsessed, I'm also scared of him going lame again.

you must be so excited! :D i think the smile on your face in the third pic says it all! :D I think re. looking for a wrong stride all the time you just have to try and ignore this and put it out of your head...hard i know but otherwise you'll be paranoid. just get into a routine that you'll trot him up properly twice a week and apart from that you aren't going to worry about it. i had quite a bit of lameness with an old horse i had and i got myself in knots worrying about him.....
loving the yellow matchy matchy as well! :D

Both looking really good, you must be thrilled :) Forgive me for being the lowest common denominator here but what colour of Anky is that?! ;)

DC sounds like a lovely day and so thrilled for you. I totally understand about the obsessing of the strides, i am completely paranoid about it. Having had my old boy break down and my little mare being sore and going a bit short, and unlevel has left me a wreck! So good that you have made it through to the other side.

Also love the spanish one and esp the yellow matchy matchy!!

That is such good news!!! So glad T is back on form and well done you for getting him through it all!

Young chap is gorgeous! Might be abducted to France any day now...

Fab pics! Love your 4 year old! Looks about the same stage as mine- He comes in a contact alright for a minute and then its "oh whats that over there!?!?" head stuck up. Slowly but surely getting there :)

Fabulous news!! You must be over the moon with your red chap - it is understandable to be worried about it but with time and strengthening I'm sure you'll be back on track!

your youngster looks very sweet - good luck with them both!

I for one am delighted to see you post!! Amazing news and pics of your red horse, he's looking fantastic. I always love seeing your Spaniard too, he's starting to look very grown up :)

Thanks so much guy's, ive been scared of posting about the Red dreagon in case i tempted fate to much, silly really i know.
last night he was still feeling fresh enough to canter round, so his lesson didnt hurt & he's gone out fresh as a daisy this morning.:)

Spanish is wearing the Maise set from Anky, im supposed to be a Dressage Diva & i only own 1 Anky set lol. Do really like the Anky pads though & would like another at somepoint. Im quite happy most of the time without bandages, but we dressage up a bit as it was the first time the Spanish had met my old trainer.:)

Really like the idea about trotting him up once a week, i think i will do that as i can see it might help my phobia.:):)

That is so good to hear about the Fat But Completely Special One, the joy in you comes through so clearly so I will be keeping everything crossed that your journey further is along a bump-free road. :) The Baby Spanish one is adorable too, I'll look forward to hearing how he progresses.

What a fab report, can feel your buzz and grin through the whole of it! :D

It has been a long haul, the major problems I have now is I'm constantly looking for odd strides. I'm obsessed, I'm also scared of him going lame again.

As everyone on here knows and is bored with hearing about, I've gone through a fairly long stint of lay off with Hopalong this last 12 months, so can sympathise with you, although your boy's injury sounds much worse than her's was. (shhh... don't tell her, she's quite competitive!)

I also know what you mean about over analysing every trip, mis-step or funny stride after a major injury, you can't help yourself. I'm still scared to make plans or commit to things more than a day in advance as I'm convinced I'm tempting fate and the minute I do, she'll go wrong again. :o

But I try push past the worry and just enjoy what we do one day at a time. :) It does mean you take less for granted with them though. :)

Good luck bringing him back into work fully, I hope you get back out having lots of fun together.

Baby horse looks lovely too. :)

I think we're all thrilled for you :). They're both very well and you sound (and look) so happy and no, we don't mind you posting at all. In fact we'll be needing further up-dates so you've started something now.

Thank you all again, I am very happy I feel like all my dreams have come true tbh to have him sound & happy.
Figam- I'm so glad I'm not the only one, I can relate heavily to everything you've said I just take everyday as it comes.
I too can't even think about making plans, I actually don't think I will fully believe he's back until we venture out & that In it's self terrifies me due to the fact that being on the lorry used to aggravate the injury.

Thank you all again for your kind comments, I will keep you all updated as it happens. But it's a slow haul so may not be for a while:)
