Theft of energiser...they came back :(

As well as CCTV, look at trail cameras. We have some of the little acorn ones, they are brilliant, and people tend not to see them

I'm in Lancashire too and there seems to be an awful lot of this going on at the moment :( We were broken into not long ago and they stole some small things and tried to steal my trailer, smashing the lock on it but fortunately they couldn't get the wheelclamps off. The police hinted they know who it is but can't do anything unless they catch them with the stuff.

Time to paint the quad bike pink, maybe a few sparkle hearts on it as well, not so easy to sell on!

Get the Quad and trailerhttp://www.datatag.co.uk/ it will cost less than £100 but will make it very unattractive to thieves
It is a combination of microchips and smartwater all our more expensive farm kit is done it will also drop your insurance on it.

With respect to cctv most experts say it is the last thing to spend your security budget on it is more important to actually secure what you have and to have it marked in a way that makes it unsellable. CCTV cameras do not stop people taking stuff if they want it and invariably actually draw attention to the fact theres something worth taking

Thanks everyone for your support and ideas, we will be looking into them but I think hubby will draw the line at pimping up the quad with pink and sparkles !

A few years ago I personalised our horse trailer with my daughter's name in a fancy lettering. A local signwriter laser cut it and I put it on the front of the trailer. Back then it only cost £12 - might be worth thinking about for the quad.

A cheap & easy thing to do is mark everything, & I mean everything - buckets, brushes, feed supplement tubs, with your postcode & house number with a permanent marker. If the police stop someone/raid their house & they can't definitely tie anything found back to a crime they can't do anything. But if anything has an identifier on they can. If anybody is sussing out yards the ones where they can quickly see that even cheap stuff is marked will be less attractive.

That absolutely sucks, one of my worst nightmares. We put up a CCTV camera on one building pointing at my yard, you can get fake ones - ours isnt fake but its a broken one from my OH's work ;) Might be worth doing just to try and put them off? Also putting up signs telling them about CCTV and that all items are marked/traceable.

I think I'd put up a working CCTV camera or one of the motion-detector ones you could put in the tackroom itself - I'd want to find the bu**ers who did it!

elliejhb thank you for your lovely offer. Luckily I had head collars and other bits and pieces elsewhere so even if the insurance doesn't cover the tack room items the only things really I have had to replace straight away are medications, supplements, my friends hat and head collars and believe it or not my husbands wellingtons and waterproofs !
A lot of the stuff stored in plastic boxes has been accumulated over the years and until I 'need' it I won't realise it has gone if that makes sense.
Thankfully they left a box containing all Victors sweet itch smalls ( sheath covers , fly masks belly wraps etc ) which essentially look like a box of used fabric but probably amounts to another couple of hundred pounds.

I bet they do and you can guarantee the police will not be paying them a visit at their "accomodation" to see if they have your stuff.
