Theoretical question - ex racer

Give him the winter off, to get racing out of his system. Bring back in spring and treat him just like any other youong green horse.

School for long and low, rhythm and work on circles, serpentines and loops, transitions within and between paces. Quiet hacks to get him used to traffic.

He is just a horse with a sharp brain and long legs. He will enjoy the one on one handling too.

Thank you x I like your answer!

Thanks everybody - you have all been really helpful and I am considering all options! I dont even have this horse yet but if it isnt him it will be one in the future so I really do appreciate all the advice!

I have heard so many different options and will take them all on board!

Thank you everyone x

You only need eight days, and only 2 mins on each day, two people and several packets of polos to teach an ex racer to stand still to be mounted.

Day one - get on, horse will move off, helper walks by side gives polo
Day two, get on, horse will move off, helper starts to open packet of polos - horse looks to helper - gets polo
Day three - get on, horse looks at helper, goes to walk off, gets polo
Day four - get on horse, horse waits for polo from helper
Day five - get on horse - rider offers horse polo from own hand, with a little help from helper
Day six - get on horse - horse looks round for polo
Day seven - get on horse - horse already waiting for polo
Day eight - horse stands still - eats polo - looks for another one !

:)
