Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts about the use of Theraplate for a horse with CPL.

I've tried the usual research and I'm not sure it will be supportive to the lymph drainage or not. I can't see it doing any harm and there is a potential for it to be helpful. Can anyone offer a scientific answer?

No scientific or anecdotal evidence but I always find that a trip in the box brings down my mares leg when it flares up. She has CPL with occasional cellulitis episodes.
I don’t know what the technology in a Theraplate is but if the vibration from being in the box helps then I imagine it may also have a positive effect. Whether it is any better than being travelled, I don’t know.

Thank you, that's really interesting.

They're meant to improve blood flow, so I guess they may help the lymphatic system.

I haven't put a horse on one yet but I have been on a Theraplate for my own injuries and it seems to help.

Thanks Melody.
I did have a look at those but the discussion was mostly arthritis focused. I know the claims are about improved circulation but I'm not sure on the science, will improved circulation to a non muscley part of the body have any impact on the lymph system?

The main problem with CPL is that it doesn't improve, you're just managing the condition so no treatments will cause 'improvements'. But then I wondered if the skin problems which are a potentially painful element of CPL, could be improved through improved circulation?

Can't find any articles to research it but then there isn't an overwhelming library of studies on theraplate at all.

I believe the theraplate used to be used on humans some time ago- is there any human research that might be useful rather than specifically equine?

ETA: I’m not sure how scientific it’s use on humans was though either?!

My yard owner has a Theraplate and she posted a couple of days a go a "before and after" for a horse with Lymphangitis.

Hopefully the link works :)

I thought that increasing circulation was contraindicated for CPL otherwise why would compression bandages be used for the condition. My cob has CPL and I follow the CPL fb group as mentioned above. It is a condition that I only became aware of in the last couple of years courtesy of of fb.

CPL isn’t the same as lymphangitis although the lymph system is affected. In CPL, the Lymph system is no longer able to work properly in the affected area. The CPL group on FB. Has scientific articles and advice. You might get an answer on there.
