There are many fates worse than death...and this is one of them

absolutely disgusting that poor, poor pony the people that did that should be tortured I say killed but that would be too painless!

I wonder if anyone has past this to World Horse Welfare or similar? The poor horse needs to be pts.

It's in Brazil, don't know who would deal with it :(

The comments on the video are unbelievable though, the vast majority saying that only God can give and take away life...

And one person saying it is fine because her cat manages fine on 3 legs; yes well this is NOT a cat, it's a HORSE

I could be mistaken, but don't think the leg has been amputated it looks like there is a tiny malformed leg/hoof on the close up. which ever way the poor horse should be put to sleep, so sad to watch the poor thing must be in pain:(

It annoys me when people use that type of comparison - even great danes and dogs of that size struggle with 3 legs

Yep that looks like a deformed tiny leg - must have been born that way, not an amputation...well, least it doesn't know any different.

I actually thought exactly the same!! Obviously been disabled all its life and to be fair other than looking very clumsy, is getting about and grazing etc, the problems would come if it goes lame! X

Poor thing, it deffo looks like a birth defect, but I imagine a foal does a lot better on 3 legs than an adult... it's shoulder is not supposed to stick out like that...

The tragedy that he doesn't know any better is that he doesn't know there is such a thing as a life without pain. Poor little chap :(

I wouldn't personally keep a horse like it, but how do you know it's in pain, it's shoulder is sticking out as it is compensating etc, and obviously deformed, not trying to be arguementative, but it's hard for us to see it moving around like that, but it may not be in pain.

I would struggle to see how it wouldn't be in pain as it is putting weight that is supposed to be distributed over 2 legs, on 1.

Ive sent an email to World horse welfare, with the YouTube link.

They work in Brazil, and have helped me out with some horses in Tunisia and here in the UK before, they are very good.

:)

According to the information given in the video, the filly was born with 3 legs, so it's definitely a birth defect. The blurb on the video says that the owner is giving her away because he is elderly and looking to move house.

She really really ought to be PTS, I don't see how she'll survive like that for very long. Sadly I doubt there is anything that can be done, we just have to hope that the right person gets her and does what is best for her :(

It looks disturbingly like thalidamide-induced birth defects in humans to me. Though there are many possible causes for similar defects - thalidimide is among the least likely. I can't see that it has any quality of life, given the limited range of movement and the evident difficulty of the movement it can manage. Poor creature :(

I thought that she was up for sale or being given away from the text over the top of the vid. She was obviously born with the defect. Poor wee soul. She doesn't look thin or uncared for so she has been well looked after. She must be in pain though, how can three legs support the weight of a horse without causing terrible discomfort. She does seem to get around quite well but she does look very young. surely things can only get worse as she goes on. Is it the owner who says that only god can decide about life?
