There are some sick people in this world...

I have to say, I'm with GTs, Baggage and Tia on this one (baaaa

). I've seen much worse sch as that video on YT about the dogs and cats in China (or was it Asia?) which xSpiralx posted up about a month or so ago.
When watcing that vdeo the first thing that popped into my head was 'what muppet would want to ride in a race so dangerous!'

Have PMed you, I was just watching a news item and think to myself what a sick world...I don't know enough about it to start an open debate but thats how it comes across on the programme I was watching.

I agree - my mother in law thinks that riding any horse is cruel and that the Grand National should be banned- she says horses shouldnt be made to do anything! - where do we draw the line?

Sorry should have added to last post - some people would consider courses like Badminton potentially suicidal - certainly non-horsey people like my mother in law - she says that horses should be allowed to do what they want - just be out in the field at grass!

Not read the other replies and I may get shot down here, but although, not pleasant to see horses tumbling down a steep hill, I didnt see too much wrong with it. If one is going to critise that then one should be looking at our Grand National.

I certainly wouldn't go to watch it or find it, in anyway, entertaining but I have seen a lot worse.

That's horrible, and although much worse happens it still shouldn't be allowed to continue!

Poor horses, they must be terrified, especially the 2nd time round!

It made me feel sad as these are such majestic, beautiful creatures and not just in this race but in loads of other situations humans are just mocking them and abusing them

Hmph.

When compairing the Suicide race to the Grand National and Badminton, you should remember that the Grand National and Badminton are run under strict regulations and both have made significant advances in improving the safety of the courses in the past 100 years and entrance have to qualify to enter.
The suicide race is exactly has it was a 100 years ago, the suicidal free for all over the edge of a cliff, down a steep slope into a fast running river to swim across and then a gallop to the finish, with no regulations and no one to answer to when things go wrong.
I'm sure if they made significant improvements to the course and had rules and regulations, limited the number of entries in each race... then people wouldn't find it so barbaric but IMO opinion the name of the race says it all.

It sort of lost credbility for me when someone started talking about the strain of 100% of the horse's bodyweight being taken on the front feet when running downhill. Apart from being factually inaccurate, that is what happens when you jump a horse anyway...
