Late change of plan saw us competing BD at Houghton on sunday.
Only objective for the day was to complete quals for winter regionals. We needed 8 points (19 to qualify).
First test we gained 4 of them and was just 0.13 off getting a fifth point.
Second test we needed 66% for the 4 points, scored 65.9% giving us 3 points so still a point short. :( The boy finds Houghton a bit spooky so tension was an issue in both tests
On the plus side we've placed first or second in last 5 tests and helped owners bank account out a bit winning £80 from wednesday and sunday so all the hours training and schooling seem to be paying off. :)
Out again on the 23rd when we will be doing the second prelim (P17) then our first Novice (N23).
Objective for that day will be to get the winter prelim quals finished and hopefully come home with a proper BD point. Wife refers to prelim points as baby points. :o

If you hadn't had the goal of the 8 points, you'd be writing a really happy report of how fan it is all going....so just think of that. You have other chances to get the points and let's face it...it sounds like everything is moving in the right direction and I love your wife calling prelim points baby points! Brilliant :)

Well done, good scores!

Shame! I sympathise, I was 0.1% off an AF sheet at my last BD! Not even thinking of regionals points :p. this week I was just happy to stay (mostly) in the boards and not die :p

They're still brilliant scores and that's a fair bit of prize money for BD so good going really!

Last year we did an AF, and if it were not for me forgetting the test we would have been in the final! Ooops. And I can't even blame anything but myself.

At least you completed a test! I would be thrilled with those scores! My horse freaked so bad at the outdoor arena there I had to retire which then didn't help for my second test. Good luck for your next shows :)

I'm chasing regional points too. I still need 7 so one test >66 and one >65 I think. I went to Todburn Sunday as they were running 2 qualifiers so I thought a fab way to get the points in one outing. Managed 67 in the first test, then the heavens opened and my 2nd test I only got 64.something. But not bad competing in a deluge I suppose. But frustrated about the points!

As it turns outs all complete waste of time. I was under the impression that once a regional qual had been gained then you kept that even if you upgrade. Well that is the case EXCEPT FOR PRELIM.
Found this in the rule book
Section 7, rule 110, para B
ii. Having qualified, horses and riders may compete in all Championships even if
they have subsequently upgraded except for Preliminary level and unless
indicated to the contrary by any other qualification rule.

Now there is no way we will have less than 14 novice points in 5 months time.
Could stay at prelim for next 6 months but seems fairly pointless so just going to press on and try to qual at novice for winters

I've just responded on your post on the BD forum.

NO NO NO NO NO!!!!

You're fine getting your Novice points as you'd still be a Group 7 rider. Just don't go and get more than 14 at Elementary as you'll then be Group 6 and out of Prelim Restricted :D

All very confusing this BD stuff. Rules need to be far more explicit.
What if I get 49 points or more at novice before winter regionals as that puts me out of prelim?

It puts the horse out of prelim but existing quals would stand.

As a rider you can have as many points at novice as you like and still be group 7. It only changes when you get 15 at elementary.
