This is just an I really appreciate my farrier thread although gutted as ponies are moving and its too far for him to travel, although he's happy to take me back on as a client if I "move back to the right side of the river". Haha.

He's always got a smile, chats away happily and is fantastic with all horses/ponies. When I bought my unhandled mare, he spent time with her and helped to train her to lift her legs and stand still. He was soothing and when she got to uppity, he did growl at her.

He's also told me in the past if I tell him where everything is, he'll easily bring her in, shoe her and turn her back out.

Other mare has always been super with the farrier if we ignore today. Little brat was in her stable and when farrier went to tie her up, she threw a paddy. Only one in 4 years for him, and I was on my way to yard due to being on nights. :)

Box of sweeties left for my lovely farrier. x
 
Agreed - I'm in NE Scotland and mine came out last night at 10.30 pm just so's I could go to my Andrew Hamilton lesson today.
 
Yeah :( I moved last year and the travel to the yard and back is too much for me so need to move them closer to home.

I'm gutted as love both my yard and my farrier but its really been a struggle, and that's with a non-existent winter.

I've had recommendations so hope the next one is as calm.

Aww, scarymare that's fantastic. Not many businesses will do that. How did your lesson go? Do you mind me asking which farrier you use?
 
I'm moving too and sadly leaving mine. Few years ago, horse lost a shoe on New Years Eve. He arrived first thing next morning, got her in, replaced the shoe and put her out all for no charge.
I'm hopeful that I'll find a wonderful farrier at the new place too.
 
I also love my farrier! He does a really good job with their feet, he is good handling the horses, especially if they are nervous or young, he turns up on time, in the 8 years ive been using him hes cancelled on me once & that was only because his wife was giving birth, so i can forgive him for that & hes not a perv like most farriers either :) id be lost without him!
 
Another who loves my farrier, he is fab :)

Half way through the last set of shoes my boy managed to rip a hind off out hunting and was sore. Superstar farrier came out on the following Monday evening to put it back on (I'd gone back and found the shoe), at nearly 9pm. End of last week and a front shoe has risen clenches (happened very suddenly) with sudden cracks appearing at the quarters. He is booked in for shoes next Monday anyway but that one was unlikely to last until next week. Sent a very grovelly message to farrier saying I was hoping to get out to our closing meet this Sat and any chance he might be able to do something with it... fab farrier did that front this morning on the way to his first call.

My farrier is brill :D
 
I love my farrier too, and more importantly so does Bailey!
Have been through three and this little fella I have now is just brilliant.
Having a highland- he just had to have patience and there are not overly many of them about! I could not praise him enough!
He has coped with a OVERLY SPOOKY welsh D, who he read very well and trimmed brilliantly. Another bulshy highland, a cob and a fell who rears being shod and thats just at my yard. Have never seen him lose his cool once!

Where abouts is it you are moving? I am central Scotland and can recommend!
 
Another vote here for a good one! In over 10 years mine has never missed an appointment or even been more than 5 or 10 minutes after the time he says he'll be there. He has time to talk to me and explain exactly what he's doing and why and is so patient and quiet that my pony just adores him - he starts lifting his feet to present to him as soon as he approaches!

In appreciation I always see that he has a clean dry pony ready and waiting to shoe, tea and cake and a bottle of whisky at Christmas!
