Has anyone tried thermal tights to go under jods? I was looking at the Pikeur thermal breeches but they actually look like a wet suit material! So now thinking of just getting thermal tights/leggings to go under my breeches. Perhaps the mountain horse ones. Anyone tried these?

I have the Joules thermals, nice and smooth under jods/breeches and keep me toasty warm, am very pleased with them.

I don't buy specific horsey ones, (far pricier) but own LOADS of thermals I generally live in all winter for coxing and riding. I often wear thermal tights, then thermal trousers under my jods - they certainly make a HUGE difference!

i've got some thermals with a stirrup foot, but i find i also need a pair of tights, more layers the better. however, i have just invested in a pair of musto snug jods, and they are by far the best winter legwear i have tried, all fluffy on the inside, which i like as it seems to feel more cosy and trap more warm air. i find when the layers are squished so close to the skin you don't feel such a benefit!

Ive got some thermals I bought for skiing think from millets in sale they are lovely and cosy, find they stay down fine if I tuck them in my first socks, then put jods on, then 2nd and sometimes 3rd socks!

I have a pair of Equetech thermal underbreeches that I have been quite pleased with, though they are expensive. Have worn them loads recently.

When I'm teaching all day I wear tights then silk long johns then thermal long johns then leggings then jods then musto overtrousers plus one pair of normal socks, one pair thermal socks then thermal boots. I also wear short sleeve thermal top, silk long sleeve thermal top, long sleeve polo neck top, another long sleeve thermal top, musto snug fleece, toggi down coat, neck sleeve, thermal gloves and wooly hat. Can you believe I'm often still cold even though I wear all that at once!!!

Try Lidls - just as good and less than half the price of "equestrian specialist" thermals. Lidl also do under motorbike gear thermal long johns and these were great too. As for thermal riding trousers I just rode out in the rain and the wind in Lidls thermal padded walking trousers tucked in my muck boots. - Absolutely brill -completely dry after an hour in the pouring rain and not slippy either - not necessarily stylish, but what the hell.
In fact better than my Dublin riding trews which I am now going to sell.

You sound dressed like a first World War fighter pilot!! - perhaps too many layers stopping the circulation, - you should aim for 3 layers max plus a top waterproof/windproof layer

In the winter I live in my Ariat Powerstretch breeches - it was freezing when I bought my first pair about 3 years ago and they were so snuggly that I wouldn't take them off, I got the shop assistant to remove the security tag while I was still wearing them!!!! I tried the Musto ones too but they didn't fit me as well as the Ariats.

I have been in my Musto Snug Jods for the past week. Must admit my bum has still been getting cold though!

(I'm hoping somebody might give it a rub if I complain enough!)

I looked at the Ariat Powerstretch Tights and YHL and I think they are thicker than the Musto ones so I'm going to try those next time.

Kyra K thermal tights, best thing I have ever owned. Very light but very warm. Not bulky and jods and breeches slide easily over them. I have also worn then under jeans, in fact never really want to take them off they are so snug

Posted this before, but also use silk long johns and they are excellent. Also Canterbury, Nike, Under Armour compression long johns are great. They are designed for sport and are designed to be tight and supportive so can be worn under almost anything.

Expensive but places like Sports Direct usually have them at discount. Like the Petzl thread, cheaper alternatives can be very good, but the premuim running / walking / outdoors brands really are better. Only question is if the extra benefit is worth the cost.
