dont post in here often but need some help!!

Looking for a mobile unit/somewhere i can take my dog for a thermal imaging scan....asap.

Were in Cheshire.

ive already contacted one in Lincolnshire and one in Nottingham and im fully prepared to drive where ever it takes... but just making sure theres nothing about in Cheshire before i set off on my roadtrip.... :D

thanks.

tis right near london but has no other details :/

contacted one in notts which looks promising..... shes having x-rays on weds but regardless of outcome i want to go ahead with the thermal scan

I wondered if they could recommend someone in your area, does seem weird though as its next to your post.

Good luck with the xrays on Weds. if they are informative why do you want to go down the other route?, if you would rather not discuss it thats fine with me and I would quite understand.

I will stick to basics else i will probably bore you to death lol.

Shes been under the referal vets for 18 months - ive no complaints with them at all - just to be said :)

She has very mild lameness - some people cant even see it but shes obviously sore - she has mild elbow displasia on front - the back left is also lame. (again mild). She hops when she runs, spins weirdly etc... (poss hip dis?) anyhow - x-rays (again!) weds to see about this.

I dont think it will show anything personally. and i guess im grasping at straws as after x-rays its bone scans.... which i REALLY dont want to put my dog through..... hence looking into thermal imaging.

non invasive, expensive yes as it wont be under insurance, but id spend my last penny on my dog :)

ets - im happy to explain everything in detail if wanted - but over pm :)

I quite understand now, I agree you have to try every avenue else how can you live with yourself. I can see why now you are going for TI and I dont see it as clutching at straws just someone who really cares for their dog. If its any consolation I would do the same, possibley explore acapuncture.

If you want to pm that is fine but only of you are comfortable with it.

So have the x-rays not revealed any degree of hip or elbow dysplasia?
There is a very long-established scoring scheme which can tell you the degree of dysplasia, run by the BVA, I assume these vets are experienced at how to take plates in the proper position?
Have you had x-rays of the spine/shoulder?

I do know a friend who's bitch had some sort of intermittent soft-tissue injury which was never resolved, she could be hopping lame one minute and fine the next, he did everything, thermal imagine, accupuncture, massage, nothing helped.

dobiegirl - i will tomorow - tis long and im tired :D but i will :)

CC - elbows yes confirmed. unless ive got that completely wrong. (will know weds so will report that back too!)

They are (according to them) one of the best hospitals in europe (for furbabies...) :D

lower spine has been x-rayed, as had her hips a few years ago, however im requesting these xrays tomorow - which were done at my LOCAL vets - not at the specialists.

Shes never been hopping lame, she just dosent put even weight on her back legs. From what ive read from thermal imaging, it will pinpoint the "hot" area. So mabey something an x-ray couldnt pick up

I am just not wanting to go down the route of bone scan. She is insured, however its my dogs mental state i couldnt put her through it....

It might be worth seeing if they have one at Leahurst on the Wirral(Liverpool Vet University) but suspect they will only see you as a referral from your vet.
Should you want to get her hips x rayed and scored I can recommend my vet in Malpas, and although I probably shouldn't suggest it he can predict the score very accurately so you may not have to pay the extra for submission to BVA. Oh and she wouldn't need to have a GA for the x rays.
I hope you manage to find the problem.

thats who shes under (leahurst) :)

lovely vets, very knowledgable...

just trying other options, before i go for anything more intrusive first :)

Noodle thats fine, I quite understand, both MM and CC are very knowledgable members and have loads of experience in this area. Im sure between them they have tried every possible options in the past.

definately. ^ :)

i know no-one on here are vets/nor seen my dog, but all ideas/suggestions welcome. Im just very wary about putting her under masses of stress if theres another way round it

its hard enough letting her go in for 2/3 hours of x rays lol! :D

thanks all :)

Ive had someone contact me whos based in nottingham (thermal imaging) she shoudl be insured for it on her policy - which was nice to hear...

However even if its not i need to get it done - works out at around £110... which is less than the £300 figure i had in my head lol.

Will speak to my vet wednesday, and then see what the x-rays come back with then have a chat about this, as I really dont want to put her through having a bone scan... so will try thermal imaging - then if necessary then look at a bone scan.

Its so minor her lameness most people dont see it, but i refuse to leave it and wait a few years for it to go worse, then be back to square one wondering whats up..

dobiegirl - sorry havent had chance to pm you yet but i will get round to it one day lo!!! :D

updated;;; shes had her x-rays, shes got very mild hip displasia on her right hip and possible left too. I also had a chat to the vet about thermal imaging and she agreed with me its non invasive but its entirely upto me if i wan tot go ahead -

My view on it is that is an MOT and wont do her any harm so worth a shot...!

Also going to get the horse done too as she has a history of back issues, and given the jumping comps i have planned coming up - i want her checked :)

So thats it really.... until we have been scanned :) It will pick up her wrists no doubt (poor dog!)

im convinced this is because shes a cross bred and sadly got all the cruddy breed issues that goes with it.....

Well at least you have some answers its always very unsatisfactory when nothing shows up, but at least she wont need to have a bone scan.

Let us know how the TI goes and good luck.

I have a lurcher that is always intermittently lame, sometimes really lame sometime just barely. We have tried everything with her and we found an excellent greyhound trainer/physio guy that had a thermal imaging device and he could pick up on where the problem was. but this didnt really help us. we eventually built a pulsed electro magnetic device which is put inside the cage and whenever the dog is lame, or any of the other dogs, they go in it for a couple of hours. this seems to help her. it might be something to look into?
Good luck with the dog, i know how you feel, we have spent thousands on the lurcher!
