I borrowed a thermatex blanket the other day as my horse had worked in the rain and was soaked. I put it on when I put her in the stable and decide to go up a couple of hours later to change it but when I went up she was absolutely dry and lovely and warm and it had wicked all the wet from her.

I now want one but this one was £90 do any of you know if you can get a cheaper blanket that is as effective as the Thermatex otherwise I shall have to wait for Christmas and be very kind to hubby!

I have one of the these which is a bit like a Thermatex and fantastic at wicking away moisture

What size are you after?

I've got a genuine Thermatex in 5'9" (fits average 6' horse) and a Colin Cook Thermalux that fits a 6'3" horse. Both are too small for any of mine and are looking for new homes.

The Thermatex is bright red with black trim and x-surcingles, and has LLC embossed in black italics on the rear corners. The Thermalux is purple and black. Has x-surcingles and has just been professionally cleaned and is sat here in the plastic bag waiting for me to list it on eBay. When I get around to it.

I'd recommend the Thermalux rugs. Not much cheaper than Thermatex when bought new, but if you look on eBay you might get a bargain in the right size. I tend too go down a size with these rugs, as they are stretchy and generous

The comfort zone lapel rugs are fantastic and slightly cheaper than thermatex. I love mine, it gets washed and comes up like new whereas the thermatex rugs look a bit scruffy and bobbly after a while. I also have a Mark Todd coolex which is very similar to the thermatex but its waiting to go on ebay as I never use it.

Everybody seems to love these rugs, I have one which I've had for a few years now and I must admit I'm not sold on them. They are cosy so very useful for travelling on a chilly day but my horse has sweated up in it. My horse also decided to itch his hind quarters one day - the rug was shredded! Huge long strands of it where hanging everywhere. It still looks dreadful although usable. This was within 5 mins of it being on and the horse is not a rug-destroyer by any means. I prefer the WB Thermo Cell which I tried at one point on a friends horse.

I've got a 6'3" t2000 in green with black and white binding, it asbolutely swamps my new horse

. I'll be putting it on ebay this weekend.
