Which of these is best?

My horse is grey with high withers so I tend to prefer full or half neck rugs to prevent rubs...

I'd like to be able to use it as a winter day rug/spring night rug if possible & something that will really, really last as I just can't afford to keep replacing cheap ones that only last a few months!

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Thanks so much
Annabel

Thermatex do a snug rug which is a 3/4 neck

I have had one of my thermatex rugs now for 17 years and it is still going strong - i have found cheaper alternatives not as good as the original Thermatex.

Thermatex fastenings are rubbish though and they stretch and slip back. IMHO, they cant be used as "proper" rugs. I have a Coolex and really rate it

What type of fastenings do they have? That would rule out a thermatex for me probably then because after horse getting herself caught in a legstrap which DIDN'T break when she was out in the field (despite rug being only 2 months old, well fitting & correctly adjusted) don't ever want anything similar to happen again.

I haven't had any problems with the fastenings and have at least 15

on all different shapes and sizes of horse with the eldest rug being around 12 years old. They can slip back but I have found this only happens on mine when the rug is too big or you try to squeeze a horse into a smaller one! They do one with a cordura outer which is more hardwearing for everyday use but I don't know if it wicks moisture away as well.

I have had one Thermalux on the yard and would never buy another, they don't dry the horses off as well and don't come up as well after washing. I've never tried a Coolex so can't comment on those.

Cant remember tbh, but they arent trustworthy!! Think they are the black platic "fold down" clips. The Coolex's have proper buckles and two straps, and cross surcingles. Have left my boy in his overnight without a worry

I have a Thermalux and love it great value for money good strong fastenings and stays put doesnt streatch .Used to have the Thermatex but for what it cost didnt think it was very good stretched loads and the fastenings were rubbish as someone else has said

I havnt had a problem with Thermalux come up as new everytime it has been washed

Really love my Thermatex but i wouldn't leave it on overnight as the rug seems to slip back enough to be tight on the shoulders and the front buckle sticks in, other than that i love it

termatex all the way, and i do use it as a stable rug from time to time, but as its so nice i try to use it for best. if you dont already know, you need to get one a size smaller than you would normally buy your horse, then the stretch around the chest is more than manageable.
