So, anyone any comments/experiences re. which to go for?

The Dizzy one's legs fill overnight, especially the hinds, and soon she's going to have to be in full time for two weeks (though will get out to hack/go in the school).

I had the Thermatex ones, they were brilliant, never had any problems with them, just loved them

I sold them on when the horse went, current horse doesnt need them (touch wood!)

Honestly? Most horses who are in regular work and TO get filled legs overnight if not worked or having to stand in overnight. If you start bandaging or whatever then you are making a rod for your own back, you won't be able to stop.

If they fill evenly and with no heat, and go down after TO or exercise, I really would not worry about it at all. My horse's legs fill overnight in the winter, soon go down with exercise and TO, it's just one of those things with horses used to more TO and exercise (mine lives out as much as possible).

I have both! I find the fitting on the equichaps are limiting if the horses legs are thinner than the perceived standard, where as the thermatex one size fits all. The equichaps are fitted round the heel area which I think is great where as the thermatex aren't

i have the aerborn thermalux ones & they have definately helped with stopping their legs from filling. they are almost identical to thermatex but cheaper i believe.

Yep SC, legs all fill evenly (hinds most) and there's no heat, and they go down with exercise

Hm. So I might not be needing to spend yet more money on my nearest and dearest (good stuff, especially as my two legged nearest and dearest is sat next to me lol).

Well I appreciate everyone gets concerned about different things, but I really would not spend the money on them myself - it really does not bother me in the slightest with my horse. He's likely to be in a lot more for the next 10 days at my trainers, and has been left with 1 rug, one cooler, one set of boots for schooling, one exercise quarter sheet, one saddle and one bridle. You can guarantee his legs will fill, but I didn't bother leaving any bandages.

On the other hand I have advanced paranoia about his ulcers (or indeed maintaining his current 'lack thereof' status!), so have left him with copious amounts of various different antacid supplements with instructions written on the lids. I was actually slightly embarrassed, but not enough to not leave any of it! So I can understand why it might make you want to spend money on it!!

If the filling doesn't do her any harm, then I'm not bothered - would rather spend the time/money/effort on trying to stop her getting totally stressed about being in

Hm. I think a call to my long suffering and very patient vet is in order

I bought the Equi chaps from Equestrian Clearance for £15 per pair. I've been really impressed with them, dry the horses legs really well and are really tough (someone turned my horse out in them by accident (!!) and they were fine, not ripped or damaged in anyway).

Thankies E_C

I'm going to speak to the vet on Monday - I need to protect her legs when she's out, due her being a prat, so need to know if I can effectively have her booted up for twenty-four hours a day
