Hello, I'm going to buy a thermatex original. Just wondering whether they either come up a litte big or small or just right. Because my horse is a 5ft9 and a 5ft6 is 30 quid cheaper as it's the cut off point between pony and horse GRRRRRRR.
Also what colours do you think, I have a liver chesnut who is more like a dark red, i don't really want green. I was thinking navy with cambridge blue binding....... what do you guys think???? What else suits chesnut??

They are generous in size. My 6'6" ID has a 6'6" Thermatex which absolutely swamps her! Luckily she has a big front so it doesn't pull back, but it would do with a horse with a small chest. So go for the cheaper, smaller one

Navy/Cambridge would look good - I had a chestnut once and hated trying to buy things for her as the colours would never be right! I once saw a chestnut with orange XC colours... it was so wrong it actually almost looked ok!

I always buy my Thermatex a size smaller than normal, as they do stretch rather a lot after a couple of uses - brilliant rugs though I wouldn't be without mine.
Personally love green on chestnuts, but any colour as long as its not red will look good.

they do come up on the large side. I bought my mare the thermatex snood rug in a 6'9, she normally in between a 6'9/7'0 rug normally and the thermatex is slightly big on her.
I also have the navy/cambridge blue - shes a bright bay and it looks fab on her.

My chestnut has black with silver binding, it looks fab. I would think the navy with cambridge blue would also suit your mare. Thermatex recommends you buy one size smaller than your normal rug.

I've got a 5'9" snoody thermatex for my 6' Arab and it fits like a glove. The stall I bought it from specifically said to go down a size unless they were farily broad across the chest.

My (orange) chestnut wears the bottle green, it's lovely on her

Do at least have a look at the bottle green..it is a gorgeous colour. I've got one for my grey mare and I actually use it as a show rug before in hand classes as it looks so smart.
I know this sounds weird, but tan and olive green also look very nice on chesnuts, if Thermatex do such colours...

I have a 6' 3" for my horse, which is his normal size and it is a size too big which is annoying. I also think the fastenings are cheap and nasty, considering that it is an expensive rug.

Our horses have all got Thermatex rugs and have the ones which are one size down from their usual rugs and they fit a treat. The only exception is that we do have one horse who takes a 6'6 and in the actual stable rug which Thermatex does (rather than the stretchy original ones which all the others of ours have) then that is true to size.

definately get a size smaller.

i got shadow a 5'3" thermatex when she was a toast rack straight out of the riding school as she was 5'6 at the time. she then 'filled out' somewhat and turned into a 5'9 but the 5'3 thermatex was perfect fit.

i got a burgundy bound with white and navy. i think it suited her very well but she had quite a deep chestnut coat.

my welshie wears 6ft6 turnout rugs and his thermatexis a 6ft and fits just perfect. he's orange and is in bottle green bound with silver - love it - looks so smart on him.
