Thank you for everyone who replied to my question about a cooler rug!

I'm looking for something to pop on our pony when she is wet. Thinking of summer when she's out & brought in for riding.

A Thermatex Summer cooler was recommended by several people. They're super spendy! But they have such good feedback on the forums.

I've had a look and we could go for the pony size, which would shave quite a bit off the price. But I'm now wondering if it would be worth getting a standard (rather than the light summer version) as it could be used in winter when she's got wet on a hack & needs to be dried off before being retuned to her stable. (Thinking we would exercise first, then pop on a cooler whilst getting all the stable jobs done.)

Could I please ask for your thoughts on this?

Also, sizing. I'm reading to go down a size. Would you find this to be accurate.

Thank you everyone for your time & patience!

I find thermatex standard rugs a bit warm in the summer, they are brilliant in cooler spring/autumn and winter though. Definitely go down a size, they are generous and they stretch a bit.

I'd keep an eye on ebay/FB/preloved and see if you can get a second hand one, then there's still money in the budget for a lightweight cooler for warmer days :)

That's really helpful, thank you!

my horse takes a 6ft 3in rug and my very old thermatex of that size fits nicely , i bought mine for £85 about 40 years ago and have used it alot on different horses and it is still in good condition so although they are now more money they are worth it IMO.... there are a few on e bay and may be worth looking at the ones that are thermatex style as they are lots cheaper and probably do the same job and you could buy both a lightweight for summer and a heavier for the winter for less than the price of 1 thermatex

interesting splashgirl, is yours the normal big squares or the little squares? I have 2 horses that wear 6'3 normally and they both find my 6'0 thermatexes quite roomy.

The reviews I have read haven't been quite as favourable...

I would still go down a size in the summer one and two sizes would work as well .
I really like my lightweight thermatex it’s a really useful rug .
