Thermatex woollen rug

I picked up 2 thermatex rugs off eBay for a great price. One is the typical waffle drying rug but the other is a woollen one. I wasn't planning on keeping both but the woollen one is gorgeous and barely used.

What do people use them for? Mine live out 99% of the year so I don't need warm stable rugs but I don't think it would wick sweat away in the same way the waffle rug will
 
Only really seen them for clipped out horses after hunting. I’ve one of the thinner ones and use it after washing or if wet in from the field. I’ve got a couple of gorgeous rugs I don’t use either one of those is thick wool. Another I have over my chair at work for if my legs get cold.
 
I have a wool rug and it only tends to get used at competitions on cold days on clipped horses. I will tend to travel them in the thermatex and then the wool rug goes on top if standing about on the trailer or being tacked up. They are super warm but lighter and easier than taking a stable rug for instance. I also think they look ridiculously smart as hold their shape and don’t slip back on the shoulders.

It is ridiculously smart!! In fact if the pony doesn't use it I'll take it home for me. Almost too nice to put on the hooligan.

Good idea about shows. He does sweat up which was why I went thermatex shopping.
 
I have an old style heavy woollen thermatex rug which has been hardly used. Rare that my horse works hard enough to need it! They are excellent for steaming horses to dry off on a cold day. I should probably sell it (it was bought second hand) but I love it. He would never be allowed to sleep in it as I don’t want it getting wet and sh*tty so it is the most pointless horse rug I own!

I use Thermalux, and I use them if they have been to sponsored ride and wear coming home or if got wet at home to dry them off.

Also aren't they a shavings magnet!!!
 
They are brilliant at wicking away sweat, and definitely dry horses quicker than anything else (I use them if I am washing before clipping, to gt them dry as soon as possible). Great for after hunting or when travelling. And they look lovely. I also have a Mark Todd copy (think it's called a Coolex) which is nice but just not quite the same as a traditional wool Thermatex. I've had two Thermatexes for absolutely years and wouldn't be without them.
 
I also use mine for shows when it's cold. They're brilliant for wet horses in the cold and I like travelling them in one when it's cold as then if they do get hot, it will just wick it away rather than them getting damp and chilly. They also look really smart.
 
I have one in my office space and wrap myself like a burrito in it when it’s cold and I’ve got a lot of admin to do.

Before that, it went on clipped horses on cold days at shows.
