Ok i was fascinated by this today. Brief history... my dog has diagnosed mild HD in her right hip and again milder in her left - this is after 2 years of lameness (mild) which actually started in her front legs (which was show on the scan as hotspots too!)

I will have proper scan pics in the next few days - but i thought id do a little report here as its a very non invasive way to see a potential problem before it becomes an issue....! I have taken these from the report :)

I will be getting my horse scanned in january too for an MOT with the same people....

really reccomend the lady who did my Mil's scans, very helpful and i hope she dosent mind me posting this :D

the main points highlighted were her hips........carpal regions..... (both of these i knew about however the wrist were meant to be ok now :( ) and a new one; sacroiliac joint on the back !

i will be doing this again for the donkey and also any more complications with the dog then i will be scanning her this way rather than more £££ at the vets - :)
 
My first thought after looking was how scary they were and seemed to be high lighting potential problems, looking again and seeing what other areas were red I realised it wasnt as bad as I first thought. If your dog goes on and shows symptons in those areas than they are great for pin pointing them but I think you could end up scaring your self to death if you take it as read that all areas in red are going to develop problems.

I hope Ive explained myself properally and I havnt got hold of the wrong end of the stick.:eek:
 
haha i know!! i kept glancing at the camera and seeing a lot of red.... but she explained it was because of the amount of fluff! (fur) :D my dog has so will look "hotter"!

wish id had this done acouple of years ago if im honest.....! would have saved a lot of time and my dog put through endless examinations etc - whereas for this - she was at home and being fed millions of treats to keep her still :)
 
Oh good I havnt lost the plot, I think its a great diagnostic tool for pinpointing areas that need further investigation without undue stress on your dog or horse. Is this covered by Insurance?.
 
Interesting. You say the main problem highlighted was in her hips, being thick here, I am used to seeing hip x rays and can't relate any of those images to a hip x ray, i.e. showing the ball and socket joint. The last one looks the most likely but what I thought might be the hip isn't showing red :confused:, can you enlighten me please.
 
MM - i havent posted all the pics! your not going mad :D i havent posted all the images as these are off her report and i hadnt got time to cut/upload them...

If anyones intrested i will upload those pics when i recieve them :)


Dobiegirl - no idea.... i paid for it...i think under some insurance companies you can be covered for it on a vets refferal.... however me being with the company i am - i think it would be pretty pointless asking as they dont even cover me for physio etc :)
 
Very interesting, especially as my dog has just had investigations into forelimb lameness which has been linked to his hip dysplasia. I'd be interested to see a thermo scan of him - probably be very similar!
