I have been really saddened to read the adds on a dog / puppy site. The number of illiterate adds from those leading car crash lives is shocking and these are the ones producing litter after litter of un- wanted dogs, primarily staffies. These sort of people are seeing it as cheap money I guess. It also seems like a key selling point of a bitch is how soon she is next in season and how well her stock sell.

Its so disheartening to see their little expectant faces and know that the chances of long term homes are remote and they'll end up in rescue homes if they're lucky and abused / dead if they're not.

I really think licensed breeding should be compulsory.

I know what you mean - the numbers of puppies needing homes is ridiculous, backyard breeders need to be restricted and properly managed (pretty impossible I know).

Walking my two over the weekend, a couple with an admittidly lovely entire male staffie came over to let the dogs say hello. When I commented on what a nice boy he was, the woman asked if I knew anyone with a bitch as they wanted to breed with him 'so they could keep one'!:mad:

They weren't fussed on which bitch - just a staffie. I mumbled something about there being millions of staffie pups around without adding any more and got tutted at and a dirty look.

Ho hum
