They have rushed one of my youngster in to Leahurst to operate on a suspected twisted gut. She presented with a distended abdomen and pain at 7 and failed to repsond to any treatment. ultra sound showed three loops in her small intestines so they have got to open her up to see the extent of what is going on.
To top it off, i have caused a server failure at work and I should be in there fixing it now so the sh*t will hit the preverbial tomorrow!!
Fingers crossed for my girl and loads and loads of whatever you all have to will her through it. Lost 2 already this year, praying to god this isn't my run of 3

They are just pputtin her back together now. She has had to have 8foot of intestine removed and they have done a procedure where they sow the small intestine back to the coecum as a prior surgery had caused adhrsions (unbilical prob at a week old) that had caused the small intestine to attach itself to the body. Prognisis isn't great apparently as it is such a drastic change to the horses anatomy.
I am confused though as to how these would cause this now that she is just turned 5, surely she has had these for a while now?? Did ask the question but didn't really get a straight answer.
If they had told me this before they had cut away theintestine I may have told them to put her to sleep on the table, the poor girl has had a lot of problems and has got a broken hock that does interfer with her work load and if she is going to struggle for the rest of her life and go through yet more suffering it isn't fair... But they didn't and they are just putting her back together. Not looking good I don't think

Okay, she is up from the anaesthetic now at least so next 48 - 72hours are critical. Asked again about what they have done and basically it was the part of the small intestine that attaches directly to the coecum that had to be removed so they have attached it to a different part.
I am exhausted and now have to face the fact that I will be in a lot of trouble at work for my clanger and have got to go in and try and fiix it.

Thank you. Hopefully something will go right this year and for her in general. Some horses just appear to be jinxed. I really do hope it is 3rd time lucky

My servers are back up anyway so something is going ok this morning

having lost 2 in 3 months before, I'm really hoping this will be third time lucky for you.

Nothing as of yet, the next 48 - 72hours are critical for her as with most ops I suppose. The biggest problems we are facing is the location that they have taken the intestine from as the have removed it right where is joins the cecum and apparently this causes more probs than other colic ops due to the way the small intetines joins the cecum (no idea how to spell that word by the way just keep guessing)
I am so tired, sat in work feeling dizzy

Hope everything is still going okay.
My girl had a colic op in february but thankfully she din't have a full twist so didn't need to remove anything.

The horse in the stable next to her had 15 feet of intestine removed and was doing okay so hopefully your's will be okay too x x x

Have been told I can go at lunch; it's my own fault I had to come in as I broke the server!
Feeling really sick now at the whole thing, my whole year so far and how much this is going to cost me! Cost aside though, my poor girl has suffered so much in her short life it's just stupid. I feel so sorry for her and it makes me so angry that things keep happening to her again.
Thanks everyone for vibes etc and I shall update when I have something more

Having a horse with colic is stressful enough, never mind with work issues on top! Fingers crossed for your girl here.

I don't know about in equines but in humans the small intestine joins the cecum at quite an odd angle (This is also where your appendix is!). Perhaps they have just had to modify this? Make sure you speak to the surgeon and get a straight answer.
