The girl who contacted me about sharing Charlie came to try him yesterday. I have to say, I was very pleased by how well behaved he was! He's not been ridden in a couple of months and not by anyone else other than me in a long time, but he was very good. The girl seemed to love him, had a huge grin on her face and said he was "absolutely brilliant". I think she has been used to RS ponies so was very happy with how responsive Charlie is. She managed to find all of the buttons, and was particularly pleased with his halt/walk to canter transition lol and that he will change transitions just by voice commands
She certainly had fun!
She does have a disability, she is missing part of one arm and therefore has had special reins designed to allow her to steer the horse. This is what i was most concerned about as Charlie is not specially trained and has only had normal tack and I didnt know if he'd adapt well to this or not, not having seen the reins. But, they were not an issue at all, she was able to control him very easily and he seemed to do everything she asked of him! She is a very good rider, certainly put me to shame!! And I think she would very much enjoy riding Charlie.
I told her and her mum to go away, sleep on it, and then we'd discuss things today. I have sent an email to see how she feels now after having ridden him and have given it a lot of thought overnight myself. Just waiting for a response. If she wants to share him and is happy to agree to a few "rules" (not really rules, but cant think of a better word! lol) such as no trotting on the roads and sharing the saddle up to once a week as its what I use for Una, then hopefully it will be a good arrangement
Will wait and see what she says.
