Today is my wedding anniversary and we had a meal out booked tonight and my MIL round to look after Ellie.

Husband was supposed to go to the yard to feed & check cob then come home, quick shower and go out for dinner.
He was greeted by this:

Cue emergency vet call, Ellie being left with Nana a bit earlier than planned.

Cob had fractured a tooth. The fractured bit had sheered partially off and was razor sharp. The sharp edge had lacerated his tongue quite badly.

Vet fished out the broken bit, fixed him up and gave him some pain killers. She will return on friday to check how his tongue is healing and remove the rest of the tooth if necessary.

I managed to dash home, we were only 10 mins late for dinner and i only had a little bit of hay in my hair!

Horses! Who’d have em!!

Ohh noooo! ?

Thats just sooo typical! ? The 1 night you just want some peace and someone else to cook for you while you coo over each other….but horses and well made plans dont always go well together!
You are trojans for being only 10 mins late! Well done!!
??

p.s Happy Anniversary! ?

I’m glad all is okay!

And I totally agree - my horse waited until I went on holiday 3 hours away to get kicked and break her leg ? I’m almost sure it wouldn’t have happened if I had been at home!!

I'm glad it wasn't even more serious, the OH must have been terrified of all that blood. So good that you made it to the meal out, Happy Anniversary ??

Hope he recovers soon. If I tell my TB I have time off work or something special planned, you can almost guarantee either a vet visit required, or a pulled muscle or a lost shoe. This week I am off work and on Friday night was greeted with a severe case of lymphangitis that has needed a vet call each day so far and 3 visits to the yard by me each day. Sometimes I do wonder why us horsey people even try and some resemblance of a normal life :-) But in all seriousness, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Thank you all for the good wishes.

Yes, the phone call i received (whilst sat feeding Ellie) was rather panicked!

Typically it was also one of the few times my YO wasn’t on the yard at the time! She had popped to the shops!

Cob seems to hold his issues until it is just my OH on the yard all on his own. Last time it was a call from husband to say cob looked like he had gone 5 rounds with mike tyson and could barely open his eyes, he had stuck his head in a hedge and been bitten/stung for his efforts!

Ouchie! Bet that hurt, poor boy!

Horses know exactly what and when to plan vet visits. Reminds me of the Sunday bank holiday after 7pm, many moons ago my horse managed to gash open just above his eye on glass ?

Ouch that looks so sore for guy.

Ouch! Yes I can totally sympathise - I've walked out of a restaurant on a date before now to sort a horse out which was stressed because of a a thunderstorm.

Hope he's recovering well.

I've banned my friend from going away. Something invariably happens the day before she goes. Had 2 PTS, 2 injuries, 1 infection, 1 suspected lami.

I've had my husband turn the car around when 1.5hrs into travelling for family holiday as one of hers was down and she'd called vet. Do they have a sixth sense?
