Just been looking for yearling prices to guage what I should consider putting my girlie up for and found this

Quite scary really. It seems as if some people think they are selling a superstar cos there is a well known name in the lineage somewhere.
 
Spell check wouldn't go amiss!! Cute looking pony though. Think they're just name dropping with Sea Biscuit, the genetic link will be very weak by now!!

Don't want to offend anyone but I was watching some Parelli on Horse & Country last night. IMO (and that is all it is) it's just circus tricks. Like to see them getting the horses doing things without the use of a lunge whip (or whatever it was).

Well i've just spied some lovely foals at a particular stud on horsemart and they want £2000 + for all of them and they're all this years foals. They are all coloured though and must admit do look lovely. I am noseying at a little dun on there - Could do with it being £1k cheaper though (it does look gorgeous though!)

Yeh I quite agree - they're in dream land expecting that much for a yearling who's done a bit of parelli.
 
i have to say it does bother me that people care and feel the need to discuss what other people are selling their horses for. yearlings can be worth 10s of thousands if theyre correctly bred. £3500 isnt much for a yearling if its got good breeding and its an american paint colt - very rare in this country.
 
Well I was going to advertise my yearling for the same amount.

my horse is related to lots of famous horseys and hes worth diddly squat!
i would have though unless they were related to a horse that has recently proven that they're of good quality then it wouldn't do much to make the price higher?

[/ QUOTE ] Yearlings that are worth 10's of thousands are generally, not always, but generally found in the racing world & SJ'ing/Eventing world etc.

American Paints may well be rare in this country but then we're at the stage where you're putting a value on a specific colour as opposed to the horses ability. People will then breed to get that particular colour instead of quality offspring which leads to indescriminate breeding of low end horses conformationally & ability wise which only serves to devalue an animal. It's a very silly way to go about valuing a horse IMO.

I agree he is an attractive colt & if he has the right attitude etc may well make a nice stallion but you can't just go on the fact he is an American Paint & therefore worth £2,500 more than others in a similar bracket.


I could be completely wrong but that's my opinion.

Yeah but you don't find yearlings of £10,20 grand on horsemart,

From the photo the colt looks just an ordinary coloured, nowt special, I prob expect to pay £800 at a push

now Arwen's filly I wouldn't bat an eyelid if she was advertised at the same price cos she looks worth it

Perhaps the owner should say more about his breeding then, and use a better photograph.

Rare doesn't equate to good, and I very much doubt its well bred, if the best they've got to say about it is that he's related to Seabiscuit!

Agreed. Also, may I say regarding the discussion of the advert- We're all involved with horses. At one point or another we will usually be involved with a transaction of buying a horse. Just like reading the business pages of a broad sheet- So and so company sold for so many £££, etc. We, just like most other people out there, need to see how the market is going to help our own sales and also to see how NOT to advertise a horse if you want a sale.

It is an advert on a publicly open website, with a view of the horse being sold to a member of said public. We, the public and potential purchasers, have the right to discuss what ever we see fit.

I am sorry if we have touched a nerve about over priced youngsters but, in my opinion, the seller desperately needs to have their head examined- As they must know something that I don't because I sure as hell do not see a 3.5K horse ANYWHERE on that advert. I'll give you 1k if you caught me on a good day- Hell, I could go to the local gypsy fair and get something equivalent for a packet of tobacco and a pack of papers.
 
As everyone has said being related to Seabiscuit is neither here nor there. For one thing it is too far in the past to make any difference to how good/bad the yearling is. Secondly Seabiscuit was not noted for being a particularly good sire, & even if he was it would make no difference unless this was a TB. If I was paying 3.5k for a yearling I would want to know full breeding & what the sire/dam had achieved. If he is a well bred Paint then you would expect that to be promoted in the ad.
