Louie and Spike are gone.

I spent the morning grooming them and giving them bucket loads of treats.

The hunt was extremely kind, careful and caring. We knew they were in safe hands.

I was hugging Ned when I heard both shots.

Goodbye boys,

Spike - Cheeky to the end!

And Louie - Always a stunner

Sorry for your loss, they both look like real characters. I hope you have lots of happy memories.

Thanks guys, they really were characters!

When I used to ride Spike, I remember not being able to get him to canter and YO getting more and more ratty with me, haha! I did win in the end though :)
Then at an in-hand show, the judge was over an hour late, but they (oddly) still made us go into the ring and walk around! He was biting me the entire time :P

I didn't ride Louie much, because he had a habit of reliving his racing days whenever we cantered. He never bolted, he just liked to go as fast as possible to the end of the track. He'd always stop though.

They were both much loved by everyone at the yard and they both went happy and it seemed the gods were watching as the sun came out for their last moments!

Huff, I hate people sometimes. I uploaded the pictures on an art site and explained what happened to them and someone said "O.o u killed them?"

Arg :(

*hugs* Thanks guys
I felt awful for Louie's owner, he's had him for years. I remember when he got him and YO said "I don't know why he always buys these silly leggy things! I prefer a tank"
He's a tough guy, a real farmer, but I could tell he was thoroughly distraught. :(

What an utter plank. Just be thankful that you have considerably more brainpower than them:rolleyes: RIP lovely boys.

I'd just stick to horse forums at times like these.

May I ask how old they were? I have this situation looming with two oldies.

I think I will :( I just can't believe the picture was attacked within 2mins...do these people just hunt for stuff like that or what?! Very pathetic.

Louie was 20+ and Spike was getting on a bit, but I'm not really sure how old.

Other people dont get the special relationship we have with them. When I lost my old boy unexpectedly at 8am on a Tuesday morning I had to take 2 days off work (I used annual leave, I didn't expect to be given any time) I remember a colleague saying when I came back, "Why did you waste your annual leave, it was just a horse"

It's lovely that they both went together and neither is left pining for the other. RIP boys.

I'm so sorry :(
What a heartless thing to say!

Apart from the sound of the gun, it was very peaceful.

Added Louie to a picture with Blobby and Archie. The three "originals" from the yard. I just need to find a picture of Dancer (who died years ago) to add to this, then all the boys would be together again.

I'm so sorry They certainly did look a pair of characters. I should think they are galloping now side by side, having a fine old time. Lovely they went together.
We seem to be saying goodbye to such a lot of old friends. (((hugs))) to you, and to all who knew and loved them.
RIP beautiful boys x

Very sorry to hear of your sad news, some people were unfortunately just trolls and That's awful that they left such nasty comments!

Rip lovely boys xxx

sorry for your loss, was spike the one you were thinking of taking on? Did you find out what was wrong with him? lovely picture

Never found out what was wrong with him, but he suddenly got very bad a few days ago, so I accepted it was the best thing to do. Louie has been on/off lame for a long time and the vet said he probably wouldn't come right this time and it was only a matter of time before he got like Spike :(
