told them I would punch their f**in heads in, that quitened them, why does it have to be a probelm to start with, why couldn't they just say eyup mate allright, no they have to be a pain, far too many incidents with chavvy kids even when schools on, now the b****ds are going to be off for 6 bloody weeks, fed up and pissed off allready

I'm lucky in that the area I live in is old mining country, so the working classes are pretty horse savvy, and generally just say alright when we're out.

Poor you

Why do people act like this? How on earth are they reared?

A local gang of kids where I used to live used to take great delight in baiting my GSDs.

I actually used to walk one for a neighbour and they were so evil to him (running up and down behind a hedge and then jumping out, getting in his face, making cat noises), he was a really high-maintenance dog and he had the potential to go for them, but I couldn't tell them that or they would have loved it.

Pity you can't train a horse to kick on command....

.... and another thing ..... the kids in our village permanently sound like they are being murdered in their beds when in fact they're playing on the b....y trampoline! God help them if they ever are in danger, we'll all ignore them.

PMSL - when I lived in my old flat I was a total net curtain twitcher, the kids sounded like they were in mortal danger, they were only playing chasies or footie!

All children should be knecked at birth until there aren't any and the problem irradicated, this should have been brought in in about 1900, then we wouldn't have all these problems today, this planet would be brilliant if it didn't have people on it

im guessing you dont have children otherwise you would never say anything so horrible as the comment above.

if you are rude to kids they'll be rude back to you. some kids are out to cause trouble but most arent and maybe you should take a look at your own actions (swearing at them? um thats grown-up) before critising.

never have a problem really, the kids regularly go down to our local bridge/waterway to jump in and generally mess about. If you call out and ask them nicely to hang on a minute whilst we get over they always do.- Though this might have something to do with my mum knowing who they are as she works at school!

Its always interesting passing trampolines in gardens too but they always stop when asked. Get much more problems with adults

In the holidays theres usually a gang of kids in the woods at a certain place near a tree swing.

I find if I smile and say Hi first they do the same back.....you get what you give......perhaps if you glare and shout at them it only encourages them to be bad and re-inforces the belief that adults are miserable moaning old gits

That would include you then, unless you were spawned as an adult.

Luckily we are in a farming village so generallly okay.
Still have trampolines, which can be interesting, especially when they are concealed behind a hedge

If you act like grumpy old witchypoo, the children will delight in winding you up - don't you remember being a child? If you are laid back and friendly, there is no fun in it.

Hurrah! A like mind!

Being a teacher- I find that the 'nice' children are the ones who were raised by parents who spoke to them politely and they were told how to mind their manners, the 'naughty' ones often have the gobby parents..... so when you speak to the children by swearing at them i'm not sure that you are helping them learn to behave around horses- they'll only be likely to be more rude next time.....

Not a problem here! We met two lads when we were out hacking last night, they were on bikes and about to set off up a big hill where we had planned a canter. Asked them if we could go first and have a blast out of their way.

They let us go, then cheered us on as we set off!!!

Hmm... a tough one...

I remember being a kid and also remember being treated like I was without a doubt a thuggish, gobby, impolite little monster by some people... I hated that and wouldn't consider being anything of the sort.

However, I also remember some peers of mine being thuggish, gobby, impolite little monsters so can see where the adults were coming from.

Children don't know how to treat animals if they aren't taught. I remember telling a couple of kids to stop tormenting a dog that had been tied up outside a shop because if they got bitten the dog would be killed. Soon stopped them and I doubt they'd do it again.

Personally I would have liked to smack the ones Pedantic talked about with a riding crop until they ran home crying but you just can't do that sort of thing anymore
grin.gif

I think we've just got to remember that it's not all their fault, a lack of discipline at home and/or school ensures a lack of manners, well mannered children would not do such a thing.

Yes I am obviously well over a 100 years old, duhhhhh, yes I have 4 kids of my own and they were all brought up to repect others and pick up their litter be at school or college, NONE of them have EVER been in trouble with the police, perhaps if you had to put up with the crap we have to in your riding area from kids you wouldn't be quite so happy happy, quite often I talk to the decent kids while out and have no trouble, the ones that give me crap get it back, I never took any [****] from my own kids and I am certainly not going to take any from other peoples, as far as my language is concerened after a 4 year old blue eyed pretty little girl shouted at me "fukin twat kick it till it bleeds" for no reason at all, you come to realise that most "childrens" language is a lot worse than mine, you can all debate why, tv magazines, crap parents.....answers on a postcard

i can assure you see if i ever found out that my children were to ever speak like that to any body i would be absolutely gobsmacked

.

My son is 10 and i have learnt him not to be a follower and do do what he thinks is right he is quite a polite little boy and im actually proud of him as he so respects his elders

Just to keep the record straight, the "kids" were about 15/16 year olds, also anyone that rides with me would tell you that I am very polite with all, kids cyclist motorists and speak to lots of people when riding where other riders dont have time or patience, the thing with me though is I have zero patience or tolerance with aresholes of any age or gender.......

On my original posting I didn't mention that I had a 16 year old girl riding with me, which puts me in protective mode being old enough to be her dad, I wasn't going to let the situation escalate and either of us risk having an accident going under a bridge where we are perfectly legally entitled to because of a bunch of retards, it's bad enough dodging the ,
broken glass and cyclists flying under it like it's a race track,
it is only this week that workmen have finished working on it for weeks with scaffolding scary men with lead lights a genorater smelly paint all of which the horses have put up with splendidly, I dont mind as maintenance is necessary, we have manged this all without accident or incident, putting up with aresholes though isn't on.

I like kids well enough, but i couldnt eat a whole one!

But I dont put up with impoliteness, Dangerous or abusive behaviour. Im also in Derbyshire, Pedantic b ut a very different area to yours it sounds.

Im not going to say Im perfect, I will always give as good as I get, and if anyone touches me or my horse (that goes to friends and their horses) I will take action, but I always like to smile and say hello to everyone I meet, that way if they are sullen I am the better person...

If you used that aggressive language whilst riding with my daughter I would be appalled. The fact you had a young girl with you actually makes your response worse, not better, in my opinion.

Exactly "in your opinion" which your entitled to, but it aint the same as mine, you must live a sheletered life as the language from the girls seems to be worse than mine most of the time "from my experience", one of our ladies challenged a group of teenagers vandalising our fencing, it was the girls that came out with the swearing telling her to fuk off, not the boys.
Must be nice to be able to stable your horse well away from estates that have sprang up all around where we are, full of garbage that just has to shout comments whether we are in the menage or out hacking, some of us cant afford nice houses in the country away from it all or it's too far to travel for livery away from the crap this country has produced.
Said all I am going to say on this subject as we have about said it all.
Ignorance is bliss I think the saying goes.
