A kind-of- friend of my mums wanted to borrow her horse to go for a ride the other day, one of his back legs was up a little bit and he's got a bit off mud fever so mum thought the exercise wouldn't do him any harm, however, he got back hopping lame after what turned out to be a 10 mile ride, and the silly woman hadn't even noticed!! This woman has had her own horse for about 10 yrs - how can you not notice if they are lame or not!!!??

Anyway, he's a bit of a drama queen and after some anti-biotics he's all better now. We think he must have got an infection from a thorn or something hunting. still annoying though as if it had been something more serious, her not noticing he was lame could have been really bad for him.

will not be letting anyone ride our neddy's witout supervision from now on!!

Hi

Yes, I agree. I would be extremely cautious about who I let ride my horses. Although Dutch wasn't suitable for most people except me anyway! People didn't understand him well enough! He was cute to hack, a little spook here and there!

He was a bit difficult in the mouth (Sadly I didn't start riding him until he was in his late teens!) and after about 6 moinths the judges thought he was about 8. I competed him to advanced medium and in one competition, his owner wanted to ride him in the medium before my class, I let her...he went round with his head in the air, was totally naughty- then he had a break of 30 mins, warmed up and got 65% in the most difficult ad med with me.

Also, they had trouble with lameness but he was only lame for a couple of days in the whole 3 yrs that I had him. Some people just can't relate to horses- I hope your horse is better now. Like leaving Dutch in the field for hours each day in the winter when he got soft soles and would go lame...I put him out for about 5 hours a day (not in bad weather) and put hoof hardener on and he was fine!

I'm not blowing my own trumpet. I'm just trying to say that some people don't think!!!

Pickle is on working livery I cant supervise every ride. I suppose I can guarantee an intrutor will though and my yard is brilliant, not that busy either on weekdays (when I am not there) pickle is only ridden by one really nice man

We keep our horse at home and he's the most sensible well behaved horse ever and never sick or sorry (usually!) but just goes to show you can never be too careful!!

Glad you are in a good yard! x

Has he got any better?
I can remember last time I hacked yours out- you put me on scary Mary.

He's fine now hun, when ever something hurts him he thinks his leg is going to fall off and is very dramatic!! We once went to get him in from the field and he wouldn't even move and we thought he'd broke his leg or something - 10 minutes later he was fine!!

It was michelle who was riding him, silly woman!! Poss team member tho?? if caf can forgive her!!
