Ok, I have my reasons for asking, which I will share with you eventually, but just to humour me....

This is my yearling Welsh Section D filly (13 months), do you think she is THIN, FAT, or JUST RIGHT?

I think she's just perfect ... she's definetly not too fat ... but she's not too thin either. She looks in fab condition! Well done!

I think that, for a yearling she is just right.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if you were told she was too thin. My mare (below) is the ideal weight yet I was told she was far to thin in the ring last year.....

I just laughed.

I also wouldn't be supprised if they said she was too thin, it is totally ridiculas, I wouldn't want to see her much fatter!

I think she looks well grown for her age however she isn't fat or thin, she is just right (which is what I voted) in my opinion.

I think she is just perfect but I would bet my life on it a showing judge has said something along the lines of "Nice pony, will do better when she's got more condition on her". I had that with Talis all the time.

Not fat, but I would not wish to see any more weight on her - personally I like to be able to just see the ribs on a yearling - she is more what I like to see in a 18 month to 2 year old condition.

Some of the welsh yearlings I see are terrible - huge necks and bums look more like a 4 year old. Wonder how long they will last.

Stick to your guns and refuse to put the weight on, if this is your problem - I did this and won the 2 year old champ at Amature Showing Soc being placed by a judge who put me there as he said he was perfect for a 2 year old and not over weight/produced.

I want my boy to be with me for years and not worn out with problems by the time he is 8 as you see with some show horses.

Thankyou everyone for your lovely comments!

Some of you have already guessed it... The judge at the Bath and West placed her, but when he came over to give us the rosette he commented that she would have been higher up the line if she was carrying more condition

I was absolutely speechless (unusual for me)... the fillies placed above her in the line were absolutely grossly OBESE, it was disgusting.

Has left me with a bad taste in my mouth. It's judges like this that give showing a bad name
mad.gif

There is so much press at the moment about obesity in horses and then top judges are blatantly encouraging it. This raises welfare issues

Anyway, I am happy with her weight and won't be upping it for sure

good for you!! how mant people go on to over produce a pony because of what some twit of a judge says

you want your pony to last years, alot of these in hand welshies are never seen in the ring past 4, some of them are so grossly overwieght it is unbelievable, perhaps a qualified vet should be in the ring alongside the judge

Those fillies were ENORMOUS! Some of them were bigger than my 3 yr old, in fact, they were as big and as FAT as my mature broodmares
shocked.gif

But you are right, I know my filly will still be going strong in 10 yrs time

my c is the same - to me she is actually a bit fat, but i have been told to get more condition on her to get placed - NO WAY i plan to do RC with her when she is old enough - she's 2 at the mo - not have her put down from laminitis by the time she's 5! some of the 2 and 3 year olds at heathfield were obese, something needs to be done, go back to photos of welsh cobs 30 years ago and see the difference, these animals were alot leaner and fitter than the ones we see today.

to be honest, i thought the judging at the B & W wasn't the best...

Obese animals were the order of the day in most native classes....

When will some of these judges learn grrr.
I think she looks great but would not want to see more weight, so stick to your guns!
