Hoping for a bit of shopping inspo here!:)

I know body protecters are meant to be worn as near as possible to the body, but I'm really needing something thin and light underneath mine for the warmer months for hacking.

When its colder I wear a poloshirt or baselayer, a very thin quilted Regatta jacket, then the BP, then a hi vis vest. In proper winter I wear a blouson type coat over the BP and a baselayer.

Need pockets for phone and a few treats for good-behavior-in-challenging-moments-rewards!

Also its so showery in the summer where I am, sometimes too windy to just go out in a poloshirt or long sleeved top, yet it can get very warm espc with the BP on. I've tried to find a softshell jacket but they dont sit well under the BP.

Maybe I need to find a fleece top that has pockets? Or almost like a showerproof top?!

Would be nice to be reasonably smart and tidy looking for once!

Any fellow hacking BP wearers out there?

In winter I wear a thin roll neck top, then a thin neoprene softshell zip top (snug fitting,), BP then a warm or std hi viz over the top of it.
I loosen the sides by a minute amount on the BP - as in summer I have just the one thin layer under and if it's a wet or chilly day then I'll pop a jacket over the BP

I'd never put my BP over any jacket, it's not worth risking it moving on impact (which can cause additional injury).

My hi viz for every day (non wet days) is this: Plenty of pockets
Winter is either this: More pockets or a thin waterproof running hi vis jacket.

Thank you this is helpful!:) Good point about the BP moving if its not close to the body in event of a fall. Also it warms up and is less stiff and awkward if its nearer the body.

Can I ask where you got/what brand your neoprene softshell zip top from, as I think that is more what I'm after, rather than a full on jacket. I'd like it to be snug fitting like yours and not bulky! I need to rethink the pockets and just take my good old bum bag in summer:D

Winters no probs as the blouson jacket over the top of the BP is not too bulky and has pockets.

I have 3 (now pretty old) horseware Ona zippy tops, but have just picked up a Firefoot Aysgarth ladies jacket in a very snug fit (was £35 in local feed store) and it fits neatly under BP. I wouldn't wear it 'out' as a bit snug but spot on under the BP.
I just fill the pockets of my hi vis zip vest in summer, phone fits nicely in one pocket, treats in another etc.

Thank you, I'll have a Google for those and need to look a bit more extensively online I think. I ordered a Regatta and an HKM softshell and neither were fitting me right.

I've got some of my fave items from chance finds in feedstores, havn't been out and about yet and probably won't this year so Google it is.

Pockets on the hi vis sound very useful, I'll look for that too, thanks!

I’m another who will only wear a jacket over a BP, not under. I’ve just picked up a Mac in a Sac waterproof jacket, which are very lightweight, to wear over mine. I bought one in a big enough size to fit over the BP and use the cords at the bottom of the jacket to effectively turn it into a blouson. I’ve then got a selection of long- and short-sleeve technical tops to wear underneath, most of which are fairly cheap and cheerful, but do the job.

One day , many , many years ago , I went to a XC practice with my older sister . We saddled up our horses , I put my skull cap on with it's new purple silk , and then I put my BP on over my lovely shiny deep purple kaghoul . My sister looked me up and down and said ' You look like an Easter Egg …….. that's still in it's box .'
