My mare has always had a thin mane throughout her whole life, she’s in her early 20s now but I really want a bit more growth and to promote a thicker mane. Is this possible or does anyone have any tips? Thanks

Try not brushing it as it pulls out un necessary hairs and give promoting hair growth supplements x

Linseed is pretty good, but mainly it’s brushing very carefully and as little as you can to prevent breaking plus using a conditioning spray/I use argan oil to stop it from needing brushing so much

If she's had a thin mane for 20 years, it's highly unlikely that she'll suddenly start sprouting hairs now no matter what you dab on it or feed to her. A wig is the only thing I can suggest (and yes, there are such things for horses).

I agree that nothing will make that mane thicken up with real horse hair that comes from your mares crest.

I had a mare once who looked very Thoroughbredy with a touch of Arab about her. Her mane should have been sleek and thin but in fact was quite rough and unruly. It had a tuft that sprang up in the middle of her crest, determined to sit on the wrong side of her neck. Looked like something a Jack Russell terrier would have. Somewhere in her genes was a little bit of hooligan but the only thing I knew about her sire was that he himself was by an Anglo Arab. I met her mother but I forget whatever I was told at the time about her history. She just looked like an old grey (white) mare to me. I didn't take much notice of her as I was rather in awe of her daughter.

Actually, that was a case of buying the wrong horse. Her character (independant) was not and never would be a match for me. But we live and learn.
