So from a little read on here I've gathered that 'the horsey population' find other organisations and groups somewhat an inconvenience...so just for fun, in an ideal world it looks like we'd have to get rid of -

Motorists
Dog Walkers
Dogs
Cows
Pheasants
The Armed Forces
Air Travel
Bicycles
Other riders who canter when out
Dull clothing

-to name but a few that would make life easier in terms of having horses if they didn't exist...Any more? :D

Oh dear, this hasn't come across in the 'tongue in cheek' way I intended...lol!

I'm much more of the opinion of 'put up and shut up' - if there were so many things that annoyed me about having horses, I wouldnt bother!

That said, I honestly agree about eradicating the flies/mites - cant see where they have a use in the bigger picture either!!

Pink noses that get sunburn
Flies!
Laminitis
Icey yards
Thieves
Lameness
Colic
Adverse weather
Basically anything that causes suffering, inconvenience or annoyance!Lol!

Definitely get rid of anything that bites the horses- keep bees though for pollination reasons, otherwise there would be nothing to eat!
Getting rid of mud wouldn't be a bad idea :p
Although I agree, if everything that inconvenienced us or our horses just disappeared, what a boring world that would be!

Uncatchable mares in 40 acre fields.

Helicopters flying so low you can virtually tap on the pilots window.

Horse Insurance. (idle musing;- would vet bills be more competitive/cheaper, if no one had insurance ?)

Bank security systems.

Bosses that expect you to spend time at work.

Yeah, traffic, other people, vets/farriers/physio's other customers who interfere with my getting an appointment whenever I like.

Lameness.

I like this game.

Spiders.

Sorry to those of you who wanted rid of flies, but I just cant stand the creatures. I began trying to tidy out the tack room last week, when a MASSIVE one practically leapt out at me. I didnt even know they came THAT size in the UK. I was so freaked out by it, I couldn't do anymore so gave up and spent the rest of the day getting goosebumps feeling like it was on me. Mum has been told that if she wants me to continue tidying out the tack room, she has to come and remove everything from the shelves and shake things out before I'll go through them!

We used to go out to Florida regularly and I remember we had to get an exterminator guy out to catch a black widow which had set up camp in our shed. I dont know HOW people in that state can own horses - imagine all the nasty spiders (and snakes) they must have hiding in their tack rooms and they BITE.... AGH.

It's ok AprilBlossom, I picked up the tone of the original post straight away :D

I think eradicating the rest of the general population would make owning horses easier, bloody people, so inconvenient

It can be bad here, you get used to putting everything in sealed boxes so spiders cant get in, and you have to cultivate a friendship with someone that isnt' scared of spiders...

To make my horse owning life easier, I'd get rid of
white fences, ( scary )
the puddle on the farm track that I ride around, ( scary, has to be jumped )
sheep and kangeroos on the farm ( very scary monsters )
and the muck heap that we have to walk past to get to the stable block. ( might be hiding one of the very scary monsters )
Kx

People are so inconsiderate, aren't they AB. I mean, the other day I was trying to school in my field and some git kept driving a giant tractor up and down my fence line  It had big flashingy lights, squeaky metal bits digging into the ground at the back and he just wouldn't stop distracting my horse

I keep meeting similar things while on hacks - sometimes they're even in fields where I want to have a canter. You would think that the farmers would have the consideration to stop while I'm trying to enjoy my horse, wouldn't you

The other week my neighbours were holding a PC camp and kept holding mounted games competitions in the next field - again, no consideration for me trying to school  and don't get me started on dog walkers and umbrella-wielding, child owning ramblers I meet on hacks

Don't they realise I have every right to be there on my horse. He could spook at them or anything  Am I being unreasonable to complain about them all to the council?

:D
