As title a few things i,ve learn't, I have no more time avalible even though i,m not riding, fillys like jumping about on mothers back as much as colts, don,t leave camera hanging on door while you sweep poo out the way as being picked up and thrown across stable doesn,t do them any good. If ER reads this what is your camera again to get those super action shots.
What things have you people learn,t that you maybe didn,t exspect sorry if spelling is wrong before someone tells me off.

Hahaha! Not to turn your back on a foal at ANY time! Esp while poo picking their stable or leading their mother out to the field in the morning.

That my 4yr old daughters hair resembles tasty hay to a foal.

That just because I can get their headcollars on, doesn't mean they'll let my husband do it!

How to wash poopy bums on a daily basis and syringe medicine down a foals throat.

I'm sure there are more! Lol!!

How two hours is not enough to muck out & feed - You will spend 2 1/2 hours watching foalie play and sleep, then realise you are late!

i didn't know they're born with soft rubbery 'slippers' on so that they don't rip the mare on the way out...
i didn't know that they do 'baby talk' to older horses, for years.
i didn't know that they'd have their own absolute distinct personalities, apparent from the first hour of birth.
i didn't know that they can go through a horrible phase and then become really nice again, seemingly unaffected by handling, which didn't change at all!
i didn't know that the colour they're born might be nothing like their eventual colour. I know greys are born black, but I didn't realise a bright bay can mature to a very dark bay, or a pale chestnut can mature to a dull chestnut. most odd.
lots more really, could go on and on.

yep i can relate to quite a few of those as well!
Will add I know a lot more about growth plates than I knew before.
Also did not know they had such an appitite for mums poo, she still likes a warm one.

I didnt know that they prefer their older sister to their mum and get very upset when they turn the wrong direction and the 'milk bar' is not open for business despite trying very hard.....

My dog learnt that when the mare chases him it's coz she hates him...when the colt chases him he wants to play!
I learnt that my mare doesn't just see me as the provider of food...i'm the babysitter too!

Agree about the rubbery slippers - in a panic-stricken moment I thought mine was deformed when she was born (with my luck in life I could not believe she could possibly be perfect!)
. . . er . . . greys are necessarily born black . . . .
this was mine at 6 weeks (I was thrilled when she was born chestnut as that was exactly what I wanted but you can see the dreaded grey starting to appear :()

I've also got a bay and a brown that are supposed to go grey too!

Hobo - camera is a Fujifilm Finepix S200HD - not ridiculously expensive either but super camera and the one down from it we use for action shots as well and is super. Just have to set it on the multi shot setting and away you go!

I didn't know that three tough nut, hard as nails cob geldings could do baby talk !.

When our filly was born in the adjoining paddock the gentle whinnies and nickers encouraging her when she was trying to stand up was so touching. They still watch her all gooey eyed, daft Chaps !!.

Not had a foal from birth but going to join in as have a yearling now who we've had since 8 months!

~If you're going to make a mistake, not only will they not be forgiving but they'll show you up and it'll end up looking much worse!

~That its best not to mention why you're in A&E, as the nurses will think you're totally mad...!

~That shoes are apparently the tastiest thing ever.
