that have made you smile because.......I thought of this from replies on another recent thread which made me remember. Things along the lines of 1'don't let him cut the corners' and 2'Keep up with Silver'. These were in the same RS session when I was on a 14 hh pony and everyone else was on 16.1+. All mature lady riders on BHS/NVQ courses and into the 10th minute of alternating rising/sitting trot without stirrups. little Silver was going faster and faster until his legs were twinkling and i turned across the school so i would not end up lead file which made RI call out comment 1. Then a bit later when i thought to myself'this is ridiculous he is going so fast' I slowe him down to something more comfortable for both of us, nicely forward and energetic still but not just behind one in front, which got me comment 2.
Anyone else got comments they thought were completely unneccessary,or even wrong?
Made you smile?

cant remember any from my riding school days but will never forget the comment I had written in my log book when i was part of a childrens rock climbing club.
It simply read...

'STOP MOANING AND IGNORE THE PAIN!'

:D:D:D

'Try harder - you're not trying'.

After being fed up for a long time I made sure that was my last lesson with that particular woman!

Disclaimer. Very slight sexual innuendo, do not read if you are prudish, very young or very easily offended - and don't blame me if you did and you were :D

When I was about 24 I used to instruct Officer Cadets from Dartmouth Academy, as usual you got your mixture of abilities and inclinations, some wanted to learn to ride, some didn't, some were naturals and some had absolutely no sense of rhythm.

Try getting them to post to the trot! Sometimes it was farcical, sometimes they put it on of course. Mostly, instead of counting the rhythm, or intoning Up/Down/Up/Down I always got the best results with In/Out/In/Out :)

At the same time I used to ride at the Royal Marines Saddle Club as well, to do that you had to be deemed proficient and work your way up the Grades - regardless of your experience, unless the Sergeant said you were able you stuck to school work and didn't get to play on Dartmoor :D

My enduring memory of lessons there were of a work party of fit marines outside the arena supposedly working - right ;) me and half a dozen chaps having a lesson and Con yelling at me "Shoulders BACK! Tits OUT, Stick your (effing) TITS OUT girlie"

Well I've been having private lessons once a week for a year now, and when I went hacking last month someone said to me "have you had many lessons?" (in a tone that implied I was useless). So whatever my instructor is telling me, it can't be right!

I've mentioned it before, so sorry to anyone who's read this already.

My mare lacks confidence and when I was having a jumping lesson once, it became obvious that she could tell if I was having even teeny tiny doubts and would run out or stop. As she jumped perfectly if I was 100% committed, my instructor would yell as we approached the jumps 'ride like a Gladiator - DEATH OR GLORY!' :D

It actually worked very effectively and I even imagined her yelling it at me once when we had a dicey moment trying to get past some naughty bullocks and through a stream when out on a hack. ;)
