I know we've had this thread on here before, but as its Friday, the sun is shining and we won GOLD yesterday, here are a few of my most recent best non horsey comments, what are yours??

Me- I need to get Leo a salt lick
Friend- does it have salt in it then?
Me- what do you think?

Mum- How’s Leos Walnuts?
Me- do you mean his chestnuts?

Mum- Has Leo got his coat on tonight?
Me- His rug mum and yes

Friend- How was the horse last night, did you wear your jacket and jompers?
Me- my what?
Friend- your jompers you know those trousers with the padding on the inside of the leg
Me- laughing- do you mean jodhpurs

:D

My nan does the coat thing as well, she feels the cold so moans if I haven't put one on :p given up explaining that they are welsh ponies in huge fluffy coats

lol

While I was working at a riding school (at weekends) a colleague from my office job once said to me 'you have to clean the stable out everyday?'
Which tickled me as I explained we mucked out everyday, gave the horses day beds and went round regularly to pooh pick... she could not believe it!

Me: we are taking the horses in the box up to the forest
Friend: what kind of box?
Me: it's a trailer they go in that we tow
Friend: how the hell do you put a seat belt on a horse??
Me: .......bangs head against wall and walks away......

And I told my boss that I'd been for a riding lesson on Tuesday (first one in years) and was still feeling a bit sore from it, and he turned around and said 'Why did you have a riding lesson? I thought you knew how to ride?'

I should've asked him why his children have swimming lessons despite being really good swimmers!

my non horsey OH was with me when a friend asked "so what is the dressage all about then, it just looks like horses prancing" so my OH said "oh its just like ballet but on horses"

my mum came out with "oh Alex i thought Kiz was on straw arnt these chippings a lot more expensive, what was wrong with straw" one they are called shavings mum and 2 its just a trail to see if shes any cleaner

my OH has a few funny names a french link is a french connection and he doesnt quite understand yet that a horses eyes are on the side therefore he learn the hard way when i asked him to hold kiz while i treated her cut and stood directly in front so i explained she couldnt see him there so he said "look just because you think she likes you better than me its ok were friends" shortly after erm i think shes on my foot...toe nail came off and alot of blood later...told u so :) x

Benson was a big 16.2hh heavy boy. When we got Donovan, who is 12.2hh a slight, dad asked when we were getting a grown up horse?

My mum always referred to the numnah as a "num-num" - she still does I think.
"Jodphurs" is another favourite of mine

Actually, I think 9 out of 10 horse owners say "maynarj" instead of "manairj":)

A slightly upsetting topic, but a friend recently lost her cat and horses being PTS came up. She could not believe that horses are shot, she had no idea that it was done! Her face XD she was horrified! Poor lass. She spend ages saying "Really? No. REALLY? You're lying..noo, surely not? Seriously?"

Nah, that reminds me of something my seven year old nephew said a few days ago. He was asking how chickens get to the supermarket and he believed they grew from the ground (despite the fact we have owned our own chickens and he regularly collected the eggs!). After explaining they are raised from chicks he then asked me if they were slaughtered by machine gun! Wouldn't be much meat left!

My boyfriend thinks that horses 'wag' their tails when they are happy, and can't get his head around the fact that some ponies are ponies size and will never grow into 16h horses! You would have thought that as I am 5ft2 and he is 6ft3, he would understand that members of the same species can be different sizes!

"Do you think you should call the vet..your horse is lame"...No dear, she is just resting her leg!

"Why shave it then put a rug on it...wouldn't it be easier to just leave it as it is". This one I do understand the logic of...until it is followed by...

"But if it sweats lots, just give it a bath"...when you have just explained that being wet in the cold weather is bad for them!

My oh always tells everyone who asks how the horse is " it's still alive, would be better as glue and why she has to buy it rugs, clip it, shoe it and feed supplements I do not know, like they have a little man in the wild who does all that for them. :D

Another friend asked on a pic I had put on fb why my horse had gimp mask on .... It was a fly mask.

Lady staying in holiday cottage next door: Is your horse blind?
Me (resisting urge to say 'yes, of course he is'): No, why?
Lady: He's wearing covers on his eyes like sunglasses, you know, like Stevie Wonder
Me: It's a fly mask
Lady (before I could add 'and he can see through it'): Can he see through it then?
Me (tempted to say 'no, I like to let my horse wander about at great risk of injury to himself rather than have flies on his face): Of course, would you like a demonstration?

Nearly everyone that comes to stay at the house next door asks about the fly mask and can the horse see, but blind? Really?!! ;)

Another friend asked on a pic I had put on fb why my horse had gimp mask on .... It was a fly mask.

My husband, who should know better, always calls our mare's fly mask her gimp mask. He'll say things like "come over here and let me put your gimp mask on" her full neck fly sheet is her Klu Klux Klan outfit.......

My non horsey mate was really impressed and genuinely interested with the Olympic dressage this week and kept saying "I know you know the routines but how do the horses dance?" :)

Blooming phone. Watching the dressage: if you took Deano to a show would you have to put his hair in wee knots? She also thought Valegro was 'so cute doing his wee dance' x

My dad thinks that Bella can't see with her fly mask on and wonders how she knows where she's going with it on! He also calls her rugs pjs or jumpers :P Some people think 11 is young and that I shouldn't be riding a 'child' horse, and I have to explain that she's actually about 'adult' age :D

OH now puts horses into the following lists:

"Warhorse"
"Warhorse but no white bits"
"Warhorses's friend."
"Shadowfax"
"brown/black blotchy pony"

My Bf is convinced Buddy should be a jousting hoss'.

Also watching a novice horse jumping class today he could not get his head around ''why great big things are walking over little sticks I! could jump over, shouldn't they be jumping?!! What the point!!!??''
I explained its more for us adrenline junkie riders who feel great pride in guiding our steeds around the course :p ;)
