So I thought it was only the YO who was a knob...
I was mistaken. The YM is also a knob. Without me asking he has told me that PF's mane is too thick (

) her whiskers have to go (over my dead body... or rather HIS) she's badly shod and she has crippling back pain.
He also insists that she has to 'get used to' being scrubbed with a metal curry comb (this is where the back pain becomes evident... PF barely tolerates a DANDY brush anywhere on her anatomy). I asked WHY she has to get used to it but wasn't given a satisfactory answer... or ANY answer, in fact.
I may beat him to a bloody pulp if he doesn't butt out of my business

Does he not realise she is a TB with highly sensitive skin?! Hector would of had a fit if I touched him anywhere with a metal curry comb!

Well exactly!!! I've told him she hates it and practically sits down when they use it, and he just says she has to 'get used to it' but can't say why!
Fortunately my 'own' groom is more amenable (possibly scared of me!). I'll have his privates off if I catch him using a metal curry comb again. The other horses are either used to it or have VERY thick skin as they don't seem to mind.

oh no they sound awful people! haven't you just moved there?

I HAVE just moved there, yes! So far I adore the school and the fences, and have managed to get PF a bit of turnout, but frankly they seem more interested in having horses look good than mucking out or making sure water is clean. Frankly I'd rather they spent more time collecting poo than fretting about PF's whiskers or the shavings that may or may not be in her tail

Especially since this place is more expensive than the Jockey club which has FAR better facilities (but is too far away for me

Sounds like they have their priorites wrong. Mine are filthy - covered in mud, grass and god know what. Tails have shaving in. However, they have clean stables, clean water and are groomed as they like.

Actually Cairo adores a hard scrub with a metal currycomb but he is a thick skinned hairy clydie. Miss Delia, my TB would have died if I had scrubbed her anything like as hard as I do Cairo.

Chancer is inbetween - like a rub with the currycomb but not a hard scrub.

I would pull their bits off if they touched any hair on my horse - if I want whiskers and a thick mane, it is my horse and it will look how I want it to.

Stick to your guns there PF! Don't let them bully you into something that you don't feel happy with......and don't let them cut off her whiskers!!

WHAT A KNOB! It's your horse, if you want your horse to have whiskers and a thick mane, then PF should have them! It's none of their business! My horses would kick the hell out of me if I went near them with a metal curry comb!

Stick to your guns - good old Manuel of Horsemanship I am sure says something along the lines that a metal curry should never be used on the horse!

at the end of the day if you are paying them you are the customer and therefore always right!! i'd point out that if they continue do what you dont want them to you will report them to the YO. if this doesnt work i'd consider moving them again! i know its a pain to travel further to a yard but since i have done it has been so much better, i spend loads longer there now!!

Thats crap at the end on the day your paying money to keep YOUR horse there and they are looking after YOUR horse! even if my horse was on full livery i would want them to be pulling my mares mane or cutting whiskers unless i wanted it done and as for the curry comb ideas what B****x i reckon you should brush the hair on his derrier with a metal comb and see how he like it.

What an arse! She's your horse, so you decide about cosmetic bits and pieces such as whiskers and manes, not him. He should only concern himself with looking after her welfare while she's in his care and abiding by your wishes in the process. I like the cheese grater idea - maybe you could shave off an eyebrow and half his head too?

How f..... in dare they try and enforce THEIR views on YOUR horse. Perhaps you should keep reminding them of that fact that she is your's and not their's.
I would not appreciate anyone making adjustments to how my horses look without my permission.
They are wrong so wrong and yes I was always brought up with the words of 'don't use metal curry combs on horses as they are there to clean the brushes and not horses'.
I think the suggestion of using a grater of some kind on him sounds very appealing. Perhaps you could make some special ball grating breeches as a gift for him being so kind.
Or better still a grater inside a chastity belt and you have the only key that would make the bstrd sweat a little!
