Large groups of cyclists taking up the entire road when I am trying to pass with the lorry or horse trailer. Rules not applied fairly.

(This comes mainly from youtube) People who think they know your horse, from a 2min clip of one or two jumps! Then go on to rant and rave about how cruel you are! Get. A. Life!!

Not sure if it's been said, but people who refuse to take any advice for the benefit of their horse because they're too arrogant to swallow their pride and do what's best for their horse!
Also people who are slap happy with the whip.
People who ride in spurs yet don't have a stable leg and no clue how to use it.
People who say that people who don't ride their horses are wasted- I'm sure the horse couldn't care less

For starters, both my horses *and* my pony are fully clipped....only 2 are ridden regularly, and none will be hunting this year :-O

My youtube mini-rant was serious! I love watching horse videos and I often see 10+ pages of how cruel the owner must be and how dreadful their riding is! People like that really should get a life.
However, the other I wrote and most I 'agree' with are kinda joking

The first one, although annoying, is not against the law.
If I got the second, the giver would be told by me what they could do with that advice!

Sorry poorly put, yes I mean when they ask for ideas and then deny everything, or if their horse is genuinely poorly kept or in a bad way and someone says it to them, and instead of looking and thinking 'she's just saying it because she's jealous' perhaps consider that they're saying it because they genuinely think there is an issue and would review the situation.
My friend looked at a photo of me riding my horse and said she felt my horse looked unhappy- instead of getting upset, I asked her why and she explained she felt the bit was too high up in her mouth. I looked over the photos and looked at the bridle on my horse and saw her point, so lowered the bit a hole. Et voila, no more resistance or evading, because the bit was comfy in her mouth. It was my fault for being negligent in the first place, but I wasn't going to be pig-headed enough to ignore her because it's 'my horse and I know best'. (which I don't haha)

Very true! I think people have to learn how to give advise AND how to take it! There's nothing wrong with a bit of friendly sharing of know-how, but when people demand you do it their way, or you're not a good rider...I just can't take it seriously!

Yes, I've answered my phone if it rings while I'm riding. I do try to pull over into a gateway or onto a verge though.
If I'm too hot, I will have a flappy, open jacket.
I have a cheekpiece that always seems to be out of the keeper, no matter how many times I put it in again.
Well, I have the pink equine bling V browband.
I have failed to pick my mare's hooves out when I was in a rush.
I don't own any knee boots.
I have done this when a rug got trashed and I had to make do until I could buy the correct size (the horse did survive
).Sometimes I just brush where the tack goes.
Am I going to be banned from HHO?

- a handful of shavings in the corner of a rubber matted stable - again usually from people who are too lazy to muck out a proper bed (rubber mats are a flooring NOT a bed);
- rugging native ponies;
- riders who do not acknowledge drivers who slow down and give them plenty of room;
- those dreadful blingy show browbands with the big rosettes especially on Arabs which should have a pretty enough head anyway;
- the ridiculous OTT showing of Arabs and making them stand with that stupid nose-in-the-air-with-a-dippy-back stance;
-fat show horses especially cobs and so-called hunters which would probably have a heart attack if they actually did have a day's hunting.

But there are things that do annoy me...
-Over bitting eg, 11.2hh pony with a dutch gag because X or Y international jumper had one. Also, not a big fan of over bitting young horses, or thinking a bit will compensate for something else that isn't right.
-Numnahs pulled over the withers, being too small for the saddle and people not using the straps on numnahs, they're there for a reason and also, look incredibly sloppy when left open too.
-Crap ads because (a) you're never going to sell a horse with just one picture of only half the horse's body in view, covered in mud and one line of text. And (b) Why bother? Surely if you put the ad up you want to sell the horse, if you don't put the effort into the ad you just look like you don't care.
-People being generally stupid by doing dangerous things with no regards for the safety of themselves, horses or others. Like yesterday I saw someone riding down a busy main road, sun glaring, no hiv-viz, no helmet on a BIG horse who was wearing knee pads (which set of 'tripper alert' in my mind)

I'm not perfect -I do lots on everyone's naughty lists- but my pet hate is...
People who hack but don't have regular lessons. In fact, for some people I know, they have had very few lessons in total in their life because they "only hack". Surely, with today's traffic and attitudes to horses, it is one of the most dangerous pursuits with a horse. That pet hate goes together with - people who don't know any aids but think their horse will suddenly know that "whoa whoa" means "stop drifting towards the scary lorry whilst trying to avoid the plastic bag in the hedge".

I know OODLES of people who do not have regular lessons. I know many people in their 50's-60's and even a woman in her 70's who last had a lesson in the early 1980's I believe she said.....a VERY experienced horsewoman, and one of the safest riders out on the roads today I reckon.
There is absolutely bugger all wrong with 'just hacking'.

That's me, I'm afraid! However, I get taught as I hack. I did have lessons as a kid so I atleast knew how to control a horse, but I don't think I've had a proper one in years! We get along fine 'just hacking'

80% of the time, yea. She usually rides at the back and gives us instruction, with an experienced horse/rider at the front leading the way ^^ When I'm not with her, the horse I ride is good enough to take out alone and not really worry about much apart from cars (Being dangerous around him, not him being spooky)
Yea, I do get what you mean about those who have no idea about road safety etc!

People that have to bring the horse in at the slightest bit of rain.....like its going to melt in water. Obviously if its sick or something then thats different and Im really referring to the slightest bit of drizzle causing mass panic.
when a horse hasnt been ridden for months, then someone turns up and gallops it about like a toy. Then wonders why it is dripping with sweat and blowing a lot!

I think I must be in the HHO hall of shame big time. I work long hard hours, both my horses are on DIY and spending time with them is far more important than making sure I have hoof oil on their feet before leaving the yard, and shavings in their tails. I always wear a riding hat and gloves though, so must be not be totally past salvation. My horses have thick rubber matting, but I only use one bail of shavings a week because its like mucking out elephants in the morning. I sometimes only brush my horses on their heads, saddle and girth area and dont brush their tails unless I have the time, and quite often they have burrs in their tails as well. Our skewbald mare has stable stains on her white bits, our black cob is also permanently clipped out and I sometimes dont even ride him once a week. He gets sweaty and itchy and after he took my top stable door off scratching, it all comes off and stays offI. My cob also has had a bling browband in the past as well. Oh and horror of horrors, I dont use travel boots as he hates them and will pull them off, injuring himself and pulling off shoes in the process.
Before anybody gets judgemental I would add that quite a few people on this forum know me personally and know how much I love and care for my horses, plus MiniTX is around a lot more than me, so does a lot for them. They are kept warm, well cared for, get plenty of turnout, see the vet, dentist, back person, saddler for tack checks regularly, are generally spoiled rotten. I just dont physically have the time to do most of the things that piss people off - I am also a Pony Club mother as well - the sin of all sins to a lot of people.
Get a life ladies, there are horse owners out there who arent as perfect as you.

I answered earlier but my pet hates are to do with care - checking every day, poo picking and over rugging.
However I then fall into the category of not being too bothered about my or my horses turnout. I would rather be riding than grooming. I am also a pony club mum! All pony club mums, I know are nice!

Dead right!!!! Only thing I hate is the lack of hi-viz wear around here & people who will not wear a hat for riding. There's no excuse.
As for bling, clipping patterns, no hoof oil etc....so what?!! Each to their own!!

Thank god some people on here aren't at my yard! My pet hates are no hats and hi viz purely for safety reasons for all concerned. Everything else its each to their own! Life is far too short to have all these annoyance's at the yard where I like to spend my days with my horses relaxing and enjoying them!

I'm not judging people, these are just things I, personally, don't like. I'm pretty sure this thread was started as a bit of fun. I agree 100% that it is peoples own decision to have their horse in a blingtastic bridle, but I just don't like it. I'm not judging anyone, its MY pet hate. But its not like I go round telling people they are idiots for doing it...

I don't have regular lessons - and I hack all time time!
I have lessons / go to camp or clinics as and when.The only things I 'hate' are things which make the horse unhappy or at risk - i.e. the person who brings their horse in at 4pm to one hay net, and doesn't appear again until 10.30am the next day!
The rest is just each to their own!
