things that you hate!

I haven't read all the "pet hates" but I did think this post was just a bit of fun - There are some things I just can't bring myself to do, which have no detriment AT ALL to my horse, such as leaving a turnout rug on all night in the stable - absolutely NOTHING wrong with that, riding out with shavings in the tail - nothing wrong with that either, but I can't do it! I know some of the things mentioned did have horse wellbeing at heart and I am sure we all agree with those, but I am sure the other stuff is more about our personal obsessions and less about judging other people. (I can't stand empty milk bottles on my kitchen windowsill either - but it doesn't bother me to see them on anyone elses kitchen windowsill)

Trace/blanket clips that 'go up around the tail'.... WHY? A horse doesn't sweat either side of their tail! Just finish it off in a straight line.

I do this! Because my grey gets quite poopy therefore its a lot easier to wash the green from his cheeks than if its thick furry hair!

Only thing which comes to mind that I dislike is seeing people smoking whilst riding. Dont like that some people wack their horses in loads of tack which isnt required (its seems to be automatic for people to use flash nosebands and martingales, usually a strong bit too - you ask them why and they dont actually know...!). Hate people walking out to amend the practice SJ fence without even thinking (or looking) that anyone else other than "their" rider wants to jump it, drives me nuts.

As for things other people have said - I do loads of those things. My horse is rarely immaculate - often I'll only brush their saddle area before I ride at home, they all live out 24/7 so its impossible to keep them clean and cleanliness means nothing to a horse - they'd rather be grubby! If I ever do bring them in (for a show or something) then they only get a small square of straw on top of their rubber matting.

Nailed - Actually there IS A difference between barefoot and unshod. Thats a very ignorant thing to say. My competition horse is currently unshod - the farrier has literally taken his shoes off for the winter and will come back regularly purely to trim his hooves (trim as in in preparation for a shoe), whereas my 2 retired ponies are barefoot - they are trimmed specifically by a barefoot trimmer in a totally different way!

My only pet hate is bitchy women who have nothing better to do with their lives than to pass judgement on other peoples horses, most of which they have never met. I used to be bothered, but to be honest as long as my horses are as I want them, I don't care how much sheepskin anyone else is wearing.

The only pet hate I have is horse riders who don't thank cars for passing wide and slow. Earlier this week we were parked up at the side of a country lane having our lunch (there is a bridleway/foot path to one side and a green to the other and we were watching the footie practice!) and a group of riders came off the perfectly dry and well kept bridle way to walk up the road, 3 abreast on very well behaved, quiet horses.

Two cars came up behind them and they made no attempt to move over and let the cars past, they just dawdled up the road at their own pace, moving over at the end of the lane before going off on another bridleway. When the cars did get past, they never thanked them!

Similar thing happened to us in my hubby's classic beetle that is rather loud at the best of times because of the air cooled engine and it sounds although you are approaching a lot faster than you are. Girl on her horse waved for us to slow down, from about 100yrds in front, hubby had already started to slow down and we were doing about 15-20mph at the time, by the time we got near the horse we were crawling past and well over on the other side of the road, not so much as a thank you.

With regards to how people keep their horses, I couldn't care less as long as the horses are happy and healthy. :)

Gosh you are a grumpy lot; must be in a permanent state of rage! I hate people going on and on and on about hats - let people care for their own heads as they wish.

Bloody hell you lot! My horse had sheepskin numnah as it kept the saddle stiller on his back when he was being brought back into work! Know he is very muscled, he only has a thin numnah underneath. He is very girthy so had a sheepskin girth sleeve. Don't see why we have to justify ourselves to be honest if the horse is happy what's the deal?

Would have to be pink tack, not like the numnah, boots etc (even though I still think they look vile, sorry if I've offended any :)) but the actual bridle! Eugh! Can't stand it! haha

Horsey people who spend far too much time judging others ;)

You know, I was coming up with my own list of bug bears and feeling really irked by some people's b/c they fitted me (bedding in tail, side reins when lunging (but yes, I do warm him up first), sheepskin numnah, matchy/matchy, hooves not oiled (don't believe in it . . . use Keratex), etc. and then I read this.

This is what really bugs me . . . judgmental (yup, there's that word) lists and opinions.

Scrotes aka scallys on the yard. (e r me horse wont cantor)

neglect.

People with no hi viz on roads etc.

People dumping rubbish on yard. Leaving gates unlocked for horses to escape.

Gossipers on yard. Oh she said this her horse done that. Ahhhhhh winds me up. Time with my horse is supose to be enjoyable and shouldnt have to listen to gossip.

The agony i feel every day for wanting my own land so i dont have to put up with above.

Could go on all night lol.

People giveing my boys treats when i have asked them not to coz hes on a diet.

Snoty people on horses that ignore you when you let on to them lol.

People that keep hanging dog poo in bags on trees.

Oh well can keep dreaming of wining the loto.

People with dogs that say oh my dog is normally all right witb horses as its atacking my boys legs.

Brats on ponies!!
I sound like my mum, but there's this girl at my school for example, same age as me (13) and has this LOVLEY horse that could really take her far. At school showjumping it was bored so it was playing with its bit and reins and she was moaning 'Muuuuum, I want to go home, I want my old pony back, blah de blah' and I was like :O
I'd love to have a pony like yours, shut up xD

I have others bunk can't think xD

Kids being overhorsed because mummy dear thinks they ride better than they do.
I also hate gags on kids ponies.
I dont like to see people leaving rubbish on showgrounds, or anywhere else come to that.

No hats when riding
Smoking around horses
Not wearing a hi viz out hacking
Failing to say thank you when someone slows down for you
Dog walkers who don't have them under control
People who leave gates open, like the shooting people who walk through our yard!!
However, my horse is clipped because she sweats when ridden, wears quite a few rugs, always has a girth sleeve, and generally hacks out looking scruffy.

Can I add on mental ex-yard owners that blame you for their business going tits up, when in actual fact it is their incompetence at caring for horses (even the basics like putting hay out in January!). Also getting the blame for the liveries leaving, when in fact they were all told to get off the yard. Grrrr

People who complain about other people when it's really got bugger all to do with them what pink bows they put in their horses mane or that glitter hoof polish they like to use...

You would do better with your time elsewhere I'm sure...

People who complain about me because I ride and jump my horse in a standing martingale - he hates a running one and my instructor told me to use the standing one, looser fitted and she put it on him and he is much happier in it and has been for 4 years so don't tell me I'm a terrible person and very cruel! Rant over :p

the ONLY thing i truly hate is......................
people who moan about the work/cost/time their horse takes up - following on from loosing my mare:( - i now face 18 months of a 2nd job to save up for another horse - if you are lucky enough to own your own - be happy :)

My youtube mini-rant was serious! I love watching horse videos and I often see 10+ pages of how cruel the owner must be and how dreadful their riding is! People like that really should get a life.

Completely disagree - and I get a lot of random, pointless abuse on youtube. It brightens up my day when numpties comment on videos about how abused my horses are because I use a crop on them :D

Over rugged horses my real bug bear - particularly those that are done so for the sake of showing purposes.

People that 'rescue' horses just because they are slightly underweight and off to the meat man, or they didn't like the fact they were kept in a muddy field, or had slightly cracked hooves - yet they described them as 'emaciated, living in filth, hooves curled up'.

People who don't bother caring for their own horses yet proclaim to be welfare enthusiasts - ie having a horse at grass then not bothering to come and check it for 4 days but saying that the horse is 'their baby and couldn't bear to be without them' and post on their fb about how deeply they feel about animal rescues.

I do the mismounting over neck thing  i must stop though, instructor forever giving me wrong :D:o

I hate it when people refuse to wear hi-vis
People who clip their horse out and never ride
People who over feed their horse
People who ride in track suit bottoms
People who just wonder into the arena without booking it

really don't understand what is wrong with riding in tracksuit bottoms. i do it as i had a baby a few weeks ago and can't yet fit back into my jods. im buggered if i'm buying a bigger pair of jods for a few weeks which i'll never wear again! wearing trackie bottoms isn't unsafe, so whats the problem??

Oh big long list - mainly to do with turnout, that's the presentation of horse & rider.

Hacking out with shavings still stuck in tail
Riding in sloppy track suit bottoms and those god awful mucker boots.
Smoking while riding
Using phone while riding
Big one here ... NO HAT WHILE RIDING/HANDLING
jackets open and flapping about
muddy riding boots- unless genuine hunting mud !
badly and ill fitting tack
Flash nosebands that have dropped and stretched and lays in the wrong place
straps not in keepers
hooves not oiled before going out
Tacky and bad clipping - the only shape I clip is a saddle shape ! (tradional hnters only)
Second big one ...........People who make up aliments for their horses to get out of riding , instead of asking for help ( I lost my nerve etc )
Water and feed buckets not scrubbed out
messy hay barns and feed rooms

is that enough to get going with !! ;-)

have more if needed !! xx

I dont do the oiled hooves, or the clean buckets, or the clean feed room and the mucky riding boots (unless competing)
Im so sorry, ill have a good clean of everything today :o:D

Please no more, the only three of those I probably wouldn't do :D

Flash nosebands that have dropped and stretched and lays in the wrong place
straps not in keepers

The rest I am probably guilty of some of the time. However when we are competing everything has to be perfect, I can be quite OCD.

Couldn't give a monkeys what anyone else wants to do with their horse unless its obviously cruel/ unfair or effects mine.
If you want to fully clip your retired shettie & dress it in a diamond encrusted rug I don't think it has sweet fa to do with me & I wouldn't give it a second thought. By unfair I mean rugging a horse up till it sweats, blaming your horse when its your mistake, over feeding to the point it affects your horses health etc.
My pet hates are people that feel the need to share their unasked for, unwanted, unnecessary & misinformed opinions with others.
And I HATE free loaders! Buy your own mucking out stuff, buckets, lunge stuff. Don't care if its not doing any harm, I didn't get left it as a gift from the tack shop fairy, buy your own. And if your work hours/ family etc make it hard to look after a horse on Diy then put it on full, don't expect free help from everyone else. (I'm not a complete cow, i don't mind the above when there's been a change in circumstances or other valid reason)
