My instructor has asked me to help her out in an accreditation day where PC instructors and Hellers need to go to and it's my job to ride for her in her example lesson (were doing YMCA jumping no hands  ) and before we ride she needs me to do everything wrong! She said earrings and wellies and the noseband the wrong side of the cheek pieces for others to spot,
So I need some more ideas for the WRONG things when riding!
This could be interesting :p

Not holding the reins properly, legs too far back/forward, heels up instead of down, saddle too far back etc. Try and think of everything you're supposed to when riding, and just do the opposite :)

bit in the horses mouth was one of the favourites a girl used to do at college, riding her horse with a three ring gag upside down erm riding with a hoodie on thats something else you shouldnt do, no hairnet, with it being pc stuff erm... not sure what else tbh cant think much back to my bhs days, scary that it was only 2 years ago!

pull to turn/pull to stop/wallop to go? Hold the reins wrong/flappy legs and arms/shouting/open flappy jacket/chin strap undone?
Hope you have a legendary horse!!

twisted leathers, throat lash too loose, forelock still under the browband, odd stirrups, rising on the wrong diagonal, brushing boots on the wrong legs.

Could be fun!!!

hair down and in your face? coat open and flapping? stirrups really long to jump in, no gloves on, mouting on the wrong side, scream at the horse if it does something wrong?

My pet hate is when people use their whips incorrectly, but i wouldnt want you to go and beat up a poor pony....

errm right hope these help...

  • coat undone so flapping about
  • hat on back to front and undone
  • girth really loose
  • tracksuit bottoms on
  • having a lunge whip
  • maybe even sitting on the horse the wrong way

This will be interesting !!!
Personal bug bears - from an Instructor ......

Hair not tied back or in a hair net
No Gloves
Hat straps not adjusted correctly - ie - all loose and floppy
Jackets not zipped up or fastened
Girth straps not through the holding strap of the saddle cloth
Girth guards not pulled down to protect saddle flap
Stirrup leathers not put into keepers - in fact all buckles not correctly put into keepers!
Ungroomed ponies - not a safety issue but a huge bug bear !
God I sound really fussy !
better stop there !

erm riding with a hoodie on thats something else you shouldnt do

i always ride in a hoodie

Boots on wrong way, i.e. straps to the insides of legs
Strirrup bars up!
Buckles facing inwards on reins, or billets facing outwards!

can't think of anything else other than things people have already pointed out!!

Facial piercings ! big no no !

ride with bare arms

ride in wellies

stirrups too short ( I hate this more than too long )

your rein not tucked through your pinky - though you might find this hard as it's instinctive!!

your thumbs not being on top !

ETS carry your whip in the wrong hand !!

look at the floor ( we all know where that will get you ... on the floor )

Reins through Throat Lash.....Believe it or not one of the Trail Leaders where I used to work once took an entire 3 hour trail ride like this....She did not last long:-)

Buckles inwards hooks outwards.

Lead ponio with stirrups hanging down

Standing martingale to throatlash not noseband (have seen this!)

Girth/girth straps not through the numnah/saddle cloth hooks.

Nothing in its keepers.

Nose band not on evenly.

If grackle/flash: too high/low, too loose.

Hair down/not appropriately tied.

Hat straps loose either around jaw or the straps to the back of the hat.

Hat not the right size.

Saddle too far back (and not to be pushed forward i.e. no rubbing the hair the wrong way).

Thumbs and little fingers not held for proper rein grip.

Stirrups the wrong way (either on the leathers the wrong way or the leathers twisted, so that e.g. safety release or outward bend is towards the saddle rather than away).

Buckle of stirrup leathers not pulled all the way up to the bar. (Someone got a firm but polite telling off for this at my RS just a couple of weeks ago on H&S ground).

Wearing scarves and necklaces.

Wearing trainers or other inappropriate footwear.

Chaps on the wrong legs.

Reins twisted rather than being flat from hand to bit.

Leg too far forward
Keeping droppping your hands on your knee
Cut corners
Do wobbly straight lines
Square circles instead of nice round ones (just thinking of things I used to do lol)
Be on the wrong diagonal all the time
Flappy legs
Stirrups too short/long

reins crossed - believe it or not, I've done this more than once :o Took a moment of going "what the blazes" before it dawned on me I'm an incompetent fool ;) I like the reins through throatlash too, nice move 8D

Girth on inside out?? Or the wrong way if it is a shaped one....

Not wearing proper riding clothes....Have seen a fat old dizzy riding in a denim skirt once, got a flash of her ummm x-o-x-o .....

With regards to facial piercings....I have my tongue pierced....twice....have once had the surprise of swallowing the barbell off the end whilst riding...interesting!

I met an instructor who'd once left a beginner alone to put on a bridle for the first time and came back to find the bit rings over the horse's ears and the headpiece and browband making a very tidy noseband :D that should do it!!

You wouldn't have thought it possible (well, I didn't!) but you could put the bridle on back to front. I was checking our rda ponies tack before the riders arrived to find that the brown band went over the head, headpiece was a wonky brow band, bit in the mouth and the throat lash twisted round and done up under the jaw! What a legendary pony to put up with the faffing that must have gone on with that!

Oh god, I do way too many of these... well, the less awful ones, like wearing a hoodie and wellies, flappy undone coat, no gloves and forgetting to tie my hair back. :o:

You could have the numnah crumpled/folded under the saddle; mount/dismount from the wrong side or put the wrong foot in the stirrup to mount so you'd be back to front; dismount by swinging your leg over the front and jumping down; dismount cowboy-style without taking your left foot out of the stirrup until your right foot hits the ground (I am ALWAYS making kids get back on and do it again when they do that!)... I can't think of any others that haven't already been mentioned. Sounds like it will be fun!

Subtle things like having the safety clip up on the stirrup bar. Or having the girth attached to the two front straps. Also have the noseband over the cheekpieces and bit upside down.

I wear tracky bottoms over my jods in cold weather! LOL!

Have ipod plugged in as you ride! Smoke a fag?! Naughty! Drink a cup of tea? Oh dear, am I really norty?! Be on the phone? Get someone to ring you and have some dire ringtone.

Keep nagging the horse, use the whip (softly!) rather than asking him to move off your leg.
