What can people recommend doing with my horse now it's dark??

I haven't got an arena, I could maybe park a car up near the fence and get a bit of light in a field, but they are a little slippy at the moment.

I've got a wicked headtorch but am too chicken to ride in the dark, anyone else do this???

What other things could I do with her??

You do better than me! I play there "Where are youuuuu!!!!" Game with my horse.. she is out with 4 others... in a 15 acre field with ravines and the odd swamp. Makes for an interesting pasttime :D

That does sound..errr.. interesting!!:D
I have a flat half an acre to find mine in!! Am especially good at poo-picking my headtorch light too!:D

I am having some lessons with a classical instructor specifically to learn some in hand excercises to use over the winter - hopefully will be more constructive than just whizzing around on the end of a lunge:)

That's an idea. I went to a demo with a local natural horseman bloke, which was great. Maybe I should book some in-hand lessons with him.:)

Am also thinking of advertising for a sharer/rider to come and ride her during the week and weekends too, but am so scared of numpties turning up, or her just getting ruined. Not that she's a super star now, but she's mine and I know the way she does things. It's really hard isn't it?!

Park your 4x4 up for some light and long line over some poles, use some pole pods, so it her stretching a bit more and using her hind legs more, practice some lateral movements from the ground, a serious of carrot stretches etc?

Hubby has just attached two big floodlights to back to 4x4 that will run without the engine/ignition on!!:D

Try clicker training. Even if you only do the preliminary exercises it really helps with your timing and horse communication.

And if you get truly bored, you can teach your horse to lift each leg in turn for you to pick, or to put its head down on command, or anything else which comes to mind!!

Apart from that I agree with Slinky Unicorn, learning to do more in-hand work will keep you fit and hopefully the horse will learn something as well!

I do ride in the dark (slowly!) although more on the tracks on the farm where I keep my horse than in the school. His eyesight is much better than mine and I found that as long as I was somewhere he was familiar with, we were fine.
