Things to look for...

I'm going to start looking at a couple of 3.5 ton vans from next weekend. What do I need to ask on the phone before I go and what do I need to look for when I get there?

I don't have a huge budget so we're going to try private sellers first and then go to a dealer if necessary.

Before I buy anything we'll get a mechanic to check it but I don't want to waste my money on getting a mechanic to check a completely useless box that I should have been able to work out for myself

Payload, and proof of, after horsebox fitting added, esp if they are of the older type
Check headroom for a 15.2 ( measure something in your stble to see how tall it needs to be
Check that you can lift the ramp on your own.

The floor, if wooden have good look under lorry, looking for damp/rotten patches. Have a good poke at any iffy looking bits.
