I am off to Trailblazer Dressage Finals at Stonleigh Prak at the end of this month.
It is my first ever final and the first time staying away.
I need a comprehensive list of things to take so that I can start organising and buy anything that I don't already have!

I'll start the list

Horse

having looked in to the costs when my daughter qualified I would recommend a credit card with a serious credit limit

I know tis very expensive. Luckily when I knew I'd qualified I started putting some money away each month. The entry does include 2 nights stabling and competing on both days plus car pass etc and I get to pitch a tent for nothing. When you look at other discaplines and how much they are for staying away I actually didn't hink it was that bad!!!

Thats already sorted!! Our box is used for self drive hire and I have already had to turn many people away much to OH's disgust!!!

They must have change costs recently as when daughter qualified they charged stabling extra plus I think it was £12 per day to park lorry. I think a lot of people got quite upset about the costs.

Alltogether inc stabling for 2 nights, lorry pass, 6 bales shavings, entry etc etc etc my entry came to £200. Having never done this before I'm not sure if that is good or bad really!!!! I just felt that it was such a good opportunity for me!!!

Alcohol - lots (for celebratory or sorrow drowning purposes)

Ah yes that is very important, plus it will help me sleep on an air bed that will no doubt deflate ( they always seem to!!!)

Girth?? Don't laugh - I forgot mine on Sunday & luckily a kind person lent me one as I REALLY didn't want to bsja bareback...

You will have a great time. I went in 2006 for the SJ champs.
You will need for the horse:
-Horse
-Headcollar
-leadrope
-cooler
-saddle with stirrups and girth
-numnah/saddlecloth
- boots/bandages if used
-bridle number
-grooming kit incl plaiting bands etc

Rider
- competition gear
- casual clothes

Stable
- wheelbarrow or something to muck out with
- shavings fork
- feed
- feed bucket
- water buckets for water and bathing

Remember horses passport, take some alcohol. It was lovely sitting with large glasses of wine whilst watching the last SJ classes of the night.

The food there is good too.

For away shows, make up the haynets you will need while there in advance, which saves huge amounts of time and mess (if you have space to travel them).

A grooming box with wheels that fits everything you need is invaluable. A step to stand on while plaiting/mounting.

Mucking out trug, fork, wheelbarrow, water buckets. Make up feeds in advance in plastic bags and bring the horse's normal feed bowl.

Extra set of whites - things always get dirtier than you think.

Extra leadrope to tie stable doors shut, and bring some spare bailing twine so you can tie up in the stables to plait/groom etc.

As I am such a geek and because nearly every trip away eventing involves usually a three hour journey and an overnight stay, I have printed up a list on my computer and laminated it so I can re-use it each time - I told you I was a geek!

If you are in temporary stabling, it's useful to have something like duct tape/plasticine etc in case there are any sharp edges/old staples etc stuck round the stables. You can at least cover them over while you wait for the stable manager to come and look!

Spare bit of jute / plastic from feedbag to half cover windows if it chucks it down, together with drawing pins to put on with. Stops stables becoming drenched (as much!). Spare clothes, NZ for pony (more rain protection)!

If you are in any way shy you might want to take a bikini/swimsuit for the showers if you don't use a lorry one as in some places they are not so private!!
Also make your feeds up before you go in plastic bags including supplements and label them morning/night etc
Bring electrolytes as if your horse gets stressed or its warm in temporary stables they can get dehydrated
