I think I have come to the decision to sell my lovely boy, because I'm basically broke!

I'm sure you all know him a bit, Badger, 16.3 ISH by Clover Brigade out of Criusing mare. £205 act. £80 not. BSJA, jumping NC. DC PN, Bold and careful XC.

Brilliant hunter/TC over any country, can be strong but safe and mannerly.

Does an ok test but needs more time and effort putting in with his flat work, if someone put the time in he'd be fab!

Great hack/temp/to do, just generally a lovely horse!

So anyone haveany idea how much to advertise for and could anyone word me an add???

Also - where would I be best to advertise him?

Yea he will do, but I know he'll get fed up if I'm expecting him to pay for everything month in, month out. He's so kind but he hasn't got that much money anyway so I don't want to be a skank.

I just think it's the most sensible thing to do and I think I can cope with it. I'll be able to pay off a bit of debt too, then maybe if I'm in a better situation next year maybe get a baby with my dad and start again.

I normally sell horses and I'm not bothered at all!! I've cried more over Badger than any other horse so far and I haven't even advertised him yet!

it sounds like you have made your mind up and the good thing is that he looks such a lovely boy, you'll have no trouble in finding him a really good home.
My mare is very similar to Badger but hasnt done as much, I would say around the 8k mark wouldnt be far wrong.
Good Luck though
xx

Sorry but don't know your situation could you not get a part time job in a pub/restaurant to supplement income. Feed cheaper food, I feed basic mix made by local saddlers and haylage in big round bales it works out alot more economical as i can get 50 haynets from one bale and it lasts 4 weeks if kept under cover. Stop unnecessary feed just feed mix, chaff and sugar beet and cut down on competitions. Try and make his shoes last longer, one of mine will go 10 weeks. Just some ideas, hope they help it would be a shame to sell such a nice well bred good competition horse and he may be hard to replace, if on woodchips and doesn't need to be put on straw.

lol, that's quite bad even by my standards!

Unfortunately Badger is a big boy and needs A LOT of food!!! He is on 3 *huge* haylege nets a night even in the summer!

I'm not willing to cut corners like that I'm afraid.

lol FMN - calm down hun!

I know it sounds crazy but not without good reason. The last 3 months I've ended up with £0 (available, minus £xx,xxx actual) 2 weeks before I get paid again and I just can't afford to keep him never mind do anything with him.

I've been crying all day, don't start me off again!

Hes stunning! Is hard to say on price atm, but last year i sold a very similar stamp of event horse, he had BD points, similar bsja, and was poping round PN. Had loads of interest in him and he went to first to view for a smidge under 10k! I Recon you should get between 10k and 15k for him.

Ok, I really, really, REALLY don't think you should sell him, if its runnnig costs could you not give ride/lease to a *decent* rider? I know there are plenty of people like me (and better riders don't worry!) who can afford the running costs but don't have the capital to buy a capable horse. I just think it's something you will regret (badly). Badgers the dream horse, I don't think there are many out there and when you're feeling more comfortable I don't think it'll be simple to find a new badger.

If you do lose your mind, I think you can name your price, he's the dream horse.

Can't you go on the game?

I think 6.5k, maybe a bit more if he is sane and sensible.

Sorry just re-read your description. I would say 8k if he is sound across country and SJ. He sounds like a good RC horse.

from me.

Sounds like you have thought it out,but are you SURE you couldnt find a loan home for him for a year or two untill you get back on your feet?
The fact that you are not new to selling them on but have been crying over Badge would say to me keep him.
Good luck hun

I was thinking I would make a good lap dancer with the new boobs???
wink.gif
i'm not that intersted in getting 25% tax on £6 an hour in a pub but I reckon they pay more at Spearmint Rino's?
wink.gif

FMN - why do I get the feeling you want me to loan him you?
wink.gif
tongue.gif
Something to think about I guess, although not sure I'd cope well with it....

I can do it Anima! I will cry, a lot, and adore him forever but I'd rather sell him than loan him.

Badger is more important to me than me having a good horse, i'd rather sell him to the right people than loan him. *cries*

Ive always liked the look of this horse, I hope you dont have to sell him, my friend sold a similar gelding (he did have a small no of BD points) as a 9yo for 11K with full wardrobe. That may be over pricing, but he is worth what someone will pay and he really does look fab. Good luck.

Thank you. Everyone has been so kind about him! I can't stop crying!!

He is a way off getting BD points I reckon, but only due to lack of work on my behalf. I'm terrible at flat work!! He does a nice test in an outline but he is a bit stiff and we get remarks like "not enough/no bend" etc. but I think he has potential.

Well, one thing you do know for sure is that that horse si such a dude he wil have plenty of great people wanting him
smile.gif

Good luck with his sale and I hope you are ablt to find another fabby one when the time is right
laugh.gif

Yes I'd say he is probably worth a decent price. I'd say somewhere around 8-10K and now would be the time to sell if you are plugging the "great hunter" part! People will pay very good money for a seasoned hunter like Badger.
smile.gif

Thanks Tia, i'm thinking I better get my ass in gear if I'm gonna do it!!!

I can't decide what to put him at - 8.5 or 9???

This is the add I've come up with
Hunt / Event / SJ

16.3 9 yo ISH grey gelding. By Clover Brigade out of Cruising mare. £205 actual, £80 notional BSJA, currently jumping NC with ease. Badger has jumped DC PN this year and will easily go Novice next season, bold and safe XC. Excellent mannerly hunter over any country, has hunting with Rockwood Harriers, Readyfeild Bloodhounds and FourShires Bloodhounds, has been known to give the field master a lead! Badger will gallop and jump all day and is never sick or sorry. Superb Team Chaser, has competed successfully in the Badsworth and Fernie hunt championships, would easily be an Open horse. Has competed and been placed at County level WH. Badger has good active paces and does a nice test, he could do much better given the attention he deserves. Great to hack out alone/in company. Good to do in everyway, box, load, shoe etc. He’s generally just a fab guy to have around. Extremely sad sale due to no fault of his own, 5* home needed for this truly fantastic horse!

????

I will trust you!!

What is he like in traffic? People will ask that so if he is good in traffic then you should put it in. If he isn't, miss it out.

Not sure I would put in that he overtakes the master though. I also wouldn't put in gallops and jump all day - I'd say he is hunting-fit instead.

How about advertising at £9,500 ono - then you can drop to £8K if the right person comes along.

I wouldn't mention anything about dressage because that is his weak point - you would be better to keep your advert to all positives ie. saying he is a fabulous hunter and good little showjumper.

He doesn't overtake the master... (well he does...
tongue.gif
) but he has to give them a lead when there horse won't jump is what i meant!
tongue.gif
I'd put "will jump first or last" but he probably wouldn't jump last and I think most people lie when they say their horse will jump first or last - they either jump first... OR last!!

Badger is the kind of guy that will hang out in the field and chill but at the end of a run he's up front and if the feild master stops - he doesn't!

So how do I say that? Points taken about dressage..

He's good in traffic, I think? I don't take him on busy roads but I don't [****] myself when a tractor/lorry comes along... so yes he's good in traffic.
smile.gif

Could you sell him as a Masters/huntsmans horse? Would this cover it? Or would you prefer not to do this? It would get around the confusion; yep I understand what you mean now, but I didn't in your ad
