To let my lovely Tuggy go. I am going to spend the weekend with him and cook him his favorite roast chicken dinner. He is the terrier cross in my sig. My husband doesn't want to do it just yet but he is well into his 17th year and I don't want to keep him going until something awful happens to him. Such an awful decision to make as i just pray I am timing it right :(

Wow 17 years...think that speaks for itself about the wonderful life he must of had :D Good luck with your decision.... It's clear you will do whatever is best for him. xx

Thank you, he had a dreadful first year of his life and came to us frightened of people but soon blossomed and has had the most wonderful life and has been there for me through some very tough times. I was hoping to let him enjoy the summer as he loves laying out in the garden with us but sadly not.

17 is an amazing age! It sounds as if you are putting him first even if it is going to cause you and OH much pain. I know its been used so many times before on here but I truly do believe it is better a month too soon than a day too late.

What an wonderful age and you have given him a lovely loving home and now as a caring owner you are thinking of him rather than you.

I applaud your decision even though I know how desparately sad you are and having had to do this myself many times It always leaves you devastated.

Sending much love to Tuggy (great name :-))) from Taggie the terrier here.

Well done for putting Tuggy's best interests before your own. I hope all goes well and that Tuggy will be happy and comfy.

xx

I'm so sorry you are having to make this decision.

I am facing the same thing for the first time and I can now fully appreciate how hard it is.

Hope you all find peace. xx

What a brave, kind person you are. This is never the easiest of decisions, but it seems to me that you've thought good and hard about this, and are acting sooner rather than later.

Grand name for a terrier! Old old BT was Tugg, and he is sorely missed every day, despite there being a newer model in the house. :)

Sening you some (((((hugs))))) if you feel you could use them.

C xx

Thanks for all your kind words, the vet is coming on Monday so I am going to make sure he has a lovely few days over the weekend and spoil him rotten. He even managed to destroy a tennis ball last night with great joy bless him. Luckily I have got two spangles to help me through this difficult time.

What a grand old age! Is that Tuggy sitting in the hay in your sig?

Thoughts are with you at this time. It's hard, but we know when it's the right time for our beloved animals.

xxx

Bless we had our Cindy for 17 years and she was a stray when we got her so dont know how old she was. My friend's collie was 18.

I know how you feel.

Thanks everyone and yes that is Tuggy sitting in the hay in my sig. It was very peaceful and he didn't know what was going. The vet was amazing and agreed it was the right time. We have so many lovely memories of him and he really enjoyed his roast dinner on Sunday. Sleep tight my lovely boy xx

Sounds like it was as good as such an awful thing could ever be. Hugs to you and RIP Tuggy. x
