Think my JRT is having a phantom pregnancy

She is 18 months old and had a season around christmas/new year.
Over the last couple of days she has been reluctant to come out of her crate, not even to eat (today)

She has taken a pair of socks she found to bed and has been licking them - she normally 'kills' socks and toys !

Could she be having a phantom?

I know her mum used to have them.

We have booked her in to be spayed on 2nd of April - could we still go ahead with this if she is having a phantom?

If she is, how long does it last?
Do we just let her get on with it or does she need to see the vet?

Sorry for all the questions - I've had dogs all my life, but never had one with a phantom pregnancy before.

I would pop her to the vet to be on the safe side and he or she can answer your concerns.
Please be very careful, my old bitch swallowed two pairs of tights during a phantom which then developed into a pyometra, we nearly lost her twice over :o so I would always err on the side of caution x
 
Yes please take anything edible/that she might mother away. I know it may look funny/cute/it may offer her some comfort and not having them is upsetting but it may prevent her from suffering a terrible blockage. The tights my bitch swallowed unfurled around her intestines and then tightened, apart from the fact that it nearly killed her the price of the surgery to fix it was horrendous.
Try not to over-fuss her, and hope she improves soon x
 
my jrt had her first phantom last year she collected my daughters teddies up and had about 6 babies in a nest in the bottom of my wardrobe she was very protective of them and cleaned them all the time, we let her get on with it and it lasted about 10 days, she had another last month 2 weeks before been spayed so we took them all away from her every time she took a new teddie we took it of her after a couple of days she was fine again and was spayed no problem.
 
Have took them away and picked up anything she could take and mother.
I feel sorry for my other dog too - she is now crying and unsettled - I'm guessing she is worried about her friend.
 
As CC says, try not to make a fuss, you can take her to the vet tomorrow galastop isnt cheap but is very helpful and will stop any unwanted complication from milk coming in. There are risks associated but you are best speaking to the vet and letting them check her over anyway and then you can make an informed decision.
 
Have been to the vets and been given Glastop (sp) to dry up her milk.

Poor girl.

She still won't come out of bed or eat. Hopefully she will be back to normal soon
 
Aw love her, galastop works in a few days, she should be feeling much better soon. Get her spayed asap! x
 
She was already booked in for 2nd April to be spayed - they said if her milk has gone they will still go ahead and do it then.
