The local show we go to regularly, is thinking about changing and adding some classes to the schedule and one of them that they may add is Ridden Hunter.

That is walk/trot/canter +individual show with gallop isn't it? No jumping?

Thank Hattie would be suitable? She's a TB but with a bit of bone..

It's a very local show!

Iwould say she's more suitable for a Riding Horse class as a type than a Ridden Hunter - they tend to be chunkier - more TB x ID types.

The class generally runs as everyone in the ring, walk, trot, canter, change the rein and a gallop on as a group (all in single file obviously!!)
then the judge pulls you into line, usually in rough order of placing.
then the judge rides each horse
then the judge assess conformation with the horse stripped, and with a trot up in hand
then all riders back on, and out round the ring for a final assessment
then pulled back into line for final placings.

No individual show in hunter classes, although local level, you will get all types of horses and all types of judges - they may not ride and then there may well be an individual show

ETA very smart horse though :) :)

Thanks guys! I'd love to do Riding Horse but that class isn't offered in the few local shows that I am able to get to and isn't on the list of "maybe" classes that this particular show will be adding :(
I'll give it a go and see what happens!!! :D Hattie can gallop too!

Many local shows, including one I judge at last week had the same horses doing riding horse and hunter.

No reason why you can't do both, but as above, she looks more of a Riding Horse than a hunter, though you might get away with LW hunter or ladies hunter depending on how much bone your horse has. My first TB was a chunky one and could do LW hunters.

Hopefully by the next show rolls around (August) my K&M saddle will have arrived in case the judge wants to ride. It's a VERY local show though, they use the same ring for shetland showing, BTO, Prettiest Mare, etc so I doubt the judge will ride as there won't be time but I'll have my normal saddle on hand just in case! :D

Hattie doesn't like too much stuff in her mouth or too thick a mouthpiece which is why I just stick to a plain old KK snaffle bit, she goes really well in it but I do have a thin mouth french link pelham and a spare set of extra long reins that I could use as well.

First of all lovely horse.

Secondly at our local show the ridden hunter does get ridden by the judge, but its worth checking first maybe?

our very local show - I was amazed, we did a trot up, individual show, go round and judge rode!!!

Thank god it wasnt too big of a class! :)

You would be amazed at what they can squeeze in time wise! - I would double check.

It depends how big she is height and bone wise. There is a small hunter class if she is small:) Lightweight or Ladies. I suppose if the show is small there wont be the amount of classes and just a thought if she jumps there is also Working Hunter.

It's only a little show so according to the list they gave of classes, there will only be one Ridden Hunter class so will encompass all heights/types. LOL, she jumps, I don't, so we only stick to flat classes :) but no Working Hunter was on the list of "maybe" classes anyways.
