Anyone else feel like that with their horses/ponies?
So far this month Pharaoh has cost my mum £250 for his uveitus and tonight he get's choke which we originally thought was colic as he got those symptoms first. It was also 30mins outside of normal hours and the vet stayed with us for over an hour so i dread to think how much this bill will be (my poor mum!). Last month his eye also flared up and we had to buy more bute and maxitrol. Also had to buy some more maxitrol this month to. At the moment we seem to be seeing the vet atleast once a week! Although hoping it will get down to once a month now his eye has settled and we have more drugs.
All the office staff and vets know who we are as soon as my mum say's hello! Mum reckons is the half thoroughbred that makes him like this as all the one's we know spend their lives injured or ill

sorry this is rather pointless but it would be good to know that i'm not the only one feeling like this!

You are not the only one. I feel like this with Poppy. In the last couple of years she has had. Front feet lameness, a kick to the knee, a kick to the stifle, swollen fetlock, swollen tendon sheath, lameness due to her hock, loss of performance due to breathing related problems and now she has swollen teats and a big infected fly bite. Pretty sure I have missed some too lol

Over the last 6 months, Ted has had just short of 2000 worth of vet visits.. without insurence, until I had to make the horrible decision to have him put to sleep.

Atleast i'm not the only one then!
he is not insured (only insured for 3rd party) as it is far to expensive because of his eye condition, vet has said we can just pay them money each week (once this bill is cleared) so we will be in credit to them which will be easier

You're definitely not the only one, my boy has just had a month off work, nerve blocks, xrays etc for what turned out to be just bruising to a front foot - done cavorting about in the field - only to go lame on the other leg after just a week back in work, again cavorting about in the field when a new pony was introduced.

We did everything right and introduced him slowly, over the fence for a week and then put him in the small paddock for two days with my boy and one other as non agressive middle and bottom of the pecking order horses so he'd have one or two friends, but they still go galloping about as soon as the new one goes in.

At this stage the vet thinks he's done the same to the other foot and I've just been very unlucky. Obvioulsy I'm glad he's not got anything serious but it's a bit frustrating to have the vet 4 times in as many weeks for something that will get better by itself!

You are not the only one, we have a £2,000 vets bill, that is one horse with an abscess and a dog with the same thing due to a hay seed in her paw, this has caused two op's etc etc, still ongoing, it's scary how much they charge!

Don't worry, I had £9,000 vets bills last year between my 2 boys (only £1,400 covered by insurance). Only planned one visit this year which was for vaccinations and teeth rasping the week before last which I thought would be about £150.00, but one horsie decided he wanted to see the vet a couple more times and so I have racked up £600 in last 2 weeks. Why do you think I chose the user name I have !!!

Seriously though I hope that your horse recovers soon and as much as you probably like your vet, it is a while before you have to call them again.
