Just thought I'd share an email that I have just sent to the Think! Road Safety people at the Dept. for Transport, I said:

Dear THINK! Road Safety...

You guys do a great job of promoting that you shouldn't use your phone whilst driving and to look out for motor bikes...

Buy please please please, will you try and run a national campaign to increase awareness about horses/horse riders.

There are still many people who pass too close and/or too fast past horses; most of the time I think it's just pure ignorance, people not being aware of the dangerous situation than can cause by passing horses so quickly.

Many thanks.

Fingers crossed, maybe if everyone sends a similar email, there maybe a campaign launched. To submit a similar email to them via their contact form: CLICK HERE

Yes but that horse road safety advert is flawed anyway, thoses riders had no apparent reason to be riding 2 abreast, to not be trotting on, or waiting in a passing place.

We have to be realistic and realise that people arent patient, and we should do our upmost to "keep the peace"
Thank the drivers who dont speed up (its a start! if we look like we appreciate them they may slow down for the next rider they meet) and dont look like a slapped arse/ chat to your mate oblivious to everything else going on.
If possible, nip into that gateway/drive and let the cars past and smile and say thanks. costs nothing but may save someone tomorrow or next year. It works for me anyway, i have one whos a saint to ride out on, so work on brownie points with drivers, which i can use when im on my not so safe in traffic one, when they have to stop before i go through their windscreen :o
