As mentioned in previous posts I have had some trouble with my pony being unhappy in any bit other than his pelham. this has been a majr issue for the last few weeks as I'm doing a dressage test next week (yes, I have clearly gone insane
). I switched him to a straight bar snaffle and he has been really unhappy, we've had a bad few weeks and I've ended up sta on him in tears a few times. His manners have also been AWOL for the past week.
Jumpthemoon came and rode him on Monday and diagnosed him as vbeing a lazy little monster, so since then I've been really getting after him and it seems to be helping a lot
One of my friend sourced a hanging cheek snaffle very similar to his pelham, and I tried it for the first time last night and WOOHOOO!!! For the first time ever he was happy in a snaffle. It was by no means perfect and there's loads of work to do, but he was relaxed and even got excited when we went out to the field. We jumped logs and bales and had a gallop - the first time I have ever been able to do this in a snaffle
His manners also returned last night and he was generally a happy pony.
Fingers crossed this wasn't a one off but I think it was quite a breakthrough for us
