Hey everyone,

This morning started like most in our little barn: I was half-asleep, coffee in hand, while the horses were already pacing and nudging each other impatiently. I went to fill the feeder, and as usual, hay was scattered all over the stall floor. Some damp strands from the night’s humidity were still sticking around. I ended up sweeping them up before I could even enjoy my morning coffee. Honestly, it made me wonder—there has to be a better way to make feeding smoother and less messy.

I started checking out some hay feeders, and wow, there are quite a few options that could really change daily barn life.

Duraplay and Behlen Country make sturdy, reliable feeders that seem perfect for keeping hay contained and off the floor, even with horses that get a little too enthusiastic.
Shur Feeder has wall-mounted models that make refilling quick and easy without bending over constantly—a definite win on busy mornings.
I also found a Garvee feeder that’s really straightforward. They look easy to install and seem practical for everyday use, and the price seems reasonable too.

I’m curious—how much difference does a good feeder really make day-to-day? Does it cut down on hay waste? Make morning feeding less of a scramble when you’re juggling multiple horses? And for those with spirited ones, how do these feeders hold up when they start tossing hay around or nudging each other for the best spots?

For me, the dream setup would keep hay clean and dry, reduce cleanup time, and let me enjoy a few quiet minutes with my coffee while the horses happily munch away. Some mornings, I even catch them trying to sneak extra hay out of the feeder or tossing it like it’s a game—so durability is definitely key!

I’d love to hear what everyone uses in their barns. Any favorite brands, setups, or little hacks that actually make feeding smoother and less messy? Pics are welcome too—I feel like we could all learn a thing or two from each other’s barn routines.

Best solution I've ever used is the Haygain Durabar (for budget) or Forager (for slow feeding). they will do deals sometimes if you ask
