Thinking of getting a puppy...

Met a 4 month old Malinois on Friday, she was very striking and nice and confident too. They are fab dogs I would imagine if you have plenty of time and understanding of the breed :)

On the hip score, out of interest, would 2:2 for the sire and 2:5 for the dam be ok? Not breeding - just the scores for our lab bitch's parents. Am just interested. She was given to us, so never looked into it.. Unfortunately not got the elbow scores on her registration, and this is perhaps where she is looking a bit unsound now and again.

Thanks, have been looking round adverts just to get an idea, I'm honestly clueless as to the breed. Can anyone offer any advice? I would love an active dog who I can take on long walks, I have a fairly big garden so I think even the massive breeds would have ample space. Erm... Trying to think what else is relevant... The pup/dog won't be on his/her own for long at all, 2/3 hours a day maximum. I'd prefer a medium/big dog, but its not set down in stone.... I just find that there's so many different breeds with pro's and con's I can't choose :o
Thankyou for all your help :)

Pointer of course!!;) Big-ish (bigger if you get a dog) but still elegant. Active outside, but happy to mooch around indoors and curl up on your lap (they believe they are lap dogs!) as long as they get to gallop when they are out!

Those are nice low scores Honey.

I actually would not recommend a Malinois for first time/inexperienced in terms of working breeds :o they can be very full-on as adults, of course there are exceptions to the rule.

Thanks Cave Canem. I always wondered about her scores.

Op sorry for butting in with a question. Hope that you find a pup. Personally I'd go for a rescue dog every time.

No problem honey :) thanks, I would have prefered to go through the rescue dog option but from local charities its not a viable option, which is a shame. Thanks for all your help everyone, I'm going to talk to a dog behavoirist (sp?) and she has said she'll suggest a compatible breed based on my personality etc, its worth a try :)
Thanks again :)

I have put down a deposit and pick up my lovely fluffy adorable Keeshond next Saturday! Excited doesn't quite cover it!

Oh my! I grew up with one and was very tempted to get another! Is there a breeder near you? They appear to be few and far between. We will require many pictograms the floofy puppy. They are adorable when tiny!

To the OP, if you want lively, have you considered a spaniel? Obviously, inboards towards springers but I could quite fancy a working cocker too. :)
