Thinking of getting another greyhound

After the loss of our old greyhound we are thinking of getting another as i love them so much.

Has anyone had a retired racing grey as i was wondering how they settled into homes as ours never raced.
 
I don't but a friend of mine has two and they are the laziest dogs I've ever met. They'll lie down and go to sleep over the door way and you can't move them you have to step over them lol.

Another friend of mine has got 3 though I don't know if they all raced but they've settled in well - she has a Yorkie and a Cairn as well.
 
Aww...sorry to hear about your hound.
The dogs at the rescue centre by me are not always raced.
Mine was rescued from the pound on the day he was due to be PTS. I get the feeling he was a travellers dog, maybe used for lamping or on the flapping circuits.
He is the sweetest, kindest laziest dog I have ever had the pleasure to own. My husband has a springer and Finny is definately the easiest of the two....and scared silly of the cats..lol

We actually have one in our rescue at the moment......she is 3yrs old and she is sweet as pie

They generally settle in pretty well.......she is great with the other rescue dogs and cats................she had been previously used for racing.......usual story after loosing a few races she was out on her ear

i have had three of mine at home after they retired. they are very lazy. what you have to remember they run a 30 second race once a week and the rest of the time they are asleep in there kennel. they make the most fantastic pets . our all lived until they were 13 /14 yo. only one of mine did not like cats the other two were scared of them. if you are really serious contact the bgoa they are the best people as they are a recognised charity for greyhound racing. pm me if you want the address for them in sussex

I would be tempted tokeep her.....cos my whippetxgreyhound is gettin on a bit now.......but as you will see in my post piccies.......I have too bloody many LOL

My mam knows the gentleman who runs the National Greyhound trust and they offered to take her on......but we prefered her to stay with us in a home environment instead of the greyhound kennels..........so they and us are activly seeking her a home....so she is effectivley from a Greyhound rescue........but she came in via my mams rescue.

I have two rescues, both off the track. Both beautiful and the easiest dogs to own I have ever had.

One word of caution though - if you do decide to get one try and avoid choosing one that has ever had a corn.

Doesn't sound like much I know BUT they are prone to them (tho' if not had them by time they retire are likely to be fine).

One of ours we knew was prone to corns but we decided to take her anyway as thought it couldn''t be a major probkem but she's cost us£600 since Christmas.

Wouldn't swap her though.

Most rewarding dogs I've ever had.
